Cop in baltimore maryland

Yea I was pretty excited to hear 3 or 4. And the more I think about it the more I feel like its a completely reasonable number. Unfortunately I haven't gotten achance to ask my buddy about what's aloud to be carried. But assuming I'm aloud to carry these I think this will be my loadout:

Leatherman charge tti on my belt
Some kind of quickly accessible folder in my vest( looking at maybe a spyderco military)
And a last ditch fixed blade on either my belt or my boot.

Is the hide away the actual name of the knife? Who makes it?

I'd take it the endura is working out well as your vest knife?

The endura is a fine multi purpose knife, not super expensive if you lose it.

You can find the hide away knife at hideawayknife.com Not the best website but you'll figure it out.

Believe it or not, it is one thing to make yourself look silly on an internet board, and another thing to make yourself look silly when attempting to start a new career. Your first mistake is asking on the internet. The place you should be asking is locally, and to a person you trust. I might be a new guy to this board, but I am older than your dad in real life. If you don't like my advice then please disregard and find out the hard way. My brother in law was thinking of the same career 20 plus years ago. I tried to reason with him (being older than him) and he disregarded. He disqualified himself and his career never started. That's all. God bless.

I have several buddies with Baltimore county pd..... they all carry a multi tool of some sort and a folder like a endura or a benchmade Osborne knife..... most friends carry 2 knives on them and a Backup in their tactical bag in the car.

believe it or not I really don't care how old you are or what kind of life experience and great wisdom you think you bring to the table. I am in no way trying to make my self look silly. I'm not setting a goal with the hole 3 to 4 knives thing just stating what I heard. How is asking if anyone knows what I'm aloud to carry a bad idea? Obviously any information I get off here I would confirm before l blindly following. Just trying to have a conversation. Thanks for your great advice on how not to look silly.

Yea I like the idea of keeping a knife in in my bag. I think 2 knives on my person is what I'm gonna go with. And one in my bag.

Thanks for the info

I am certain that you will be made familiar with the rules and regulations regarding knives and other tools and weapons upon beginning your career. I would politely suggest that you avoid asking around as to what kinds of "unorthodox" weapons or tools you may possess on duty. This question will probably answer itself in time, so don't get yourself branded as a weirdo right out of the box. Most police officers aren't gun or knife people, anyway. That said, I like a folder or two clipped into the waist band of the trousers, to minimize their profile, and a Leatherman Wave on the belt. If permitted by Baltimore PD, I would recommend a back-up pistol on the vest or under the shirt, prefferable a subcompact version of the duty pistol, using the same magazines and ammuntion.

In all likelihood, you impact weapon will prove it self far more useful than an edged weapon. Commit yourself to carrying your baton and to becoming skillful in its use.

Stay safe.

Yea that's a good thought. Thanks for the info. That's the main reason I was hesitant about asking anyone and came here. Didn't want people thinking I was a creep. Anyway thanks for the post. Certainly a good thought about the back up gun. Hadn't even thought of that

a back up pistol should be carried where it can be quickly accessed, as its purpose is generally for primary weapon retention.

i carry in my support side front pocket, and i know many who carry in their support side back pocket. i had to take everything out of my back pants pockets after some back injuries, but always preferred front pocket carry.

you would do well to ignore that fellow. this is not the only thread in which he has displayed his ignorance.

Thanks morimotom you giving alot of good info in this thread. I suppose it'd be good practice to not let people work me up as easy giving the line of work I'm looking at going into. Some practice in ignoring and letting go may be in line on my part. Thanks everyone for all the help

If you have other insights, I am eager to hear them. I'm always learning.

there are certainly differing schools of thought regarding back up weapons.

i was describing a close quarter primary weapon retention wherein a suspect is attempting to take an officer's gun. in theory, the strong hand would grasp the weapon to retain, and the support hand would draw the back up. a back up carried inside the shirt would be basically unreachable. having the back up pistol also allows an officer to create distance and still possess the ability to engage, whereas a knife would not.

there is no retention for a pocket holster other than it being totally concealed, but that is sort of the point. in that moment, the last thing you should consider is having to release a snap or other device.

however, i also carry an emerson kerambit in my support side sap pocket, so i do have options.

statistically, back up weapons are rarely used, and knives are used as a force option even less.

regarding the size of the pistol, i met a deputy a few years ago who carried a full size usp .45 as his primary. his back up?

a second full size usp .45 in his front pocket. but he was a real big guy.
