Does anybody own the Cocobolo version of the Buck 117 that is sold by C&C. If so, how do you like it and do you use it or keep it strictly as a collector’s piece. I’ve been eyeing this model for a while now, also just notice it’s gone up in price. I think it is an exceptionally nice looking blade and the perfect size for a edc fixed blade. Thanks in advance!

yes I do. I dont use it as I have 119s in 5160 I prefer that size more.

I like Bucks 5160 it's a great carbon steel and Bucks heat treat on it is top notch. if ya like the size of the 117 its a winner as the only difference between the 119 and it is the size. the steel is great regardless of the knife if ya like carbon tougher steels.

I bought both versions when C&C had them and like them. The heft of the brass/Cocobolo has grown on me, and I may now prefer it. I don't think you can go wrong with either version. I hope they'll offer even more variations. I would LOVE a Pro model.

Looks like you've eyed it for too long, the 117's are out of stock. No telling if and/or when they will be back.

I have the regular (black phenolic) and the Cocobolo versions. I only used the one with the black phenolic handle, I like it... but then, I also have the 105 Pathfinder, and have a difficult time deciding which one I prefer more, as they are so close in actual use.

If you like 117's you need to grab them when they become available.

I agree, I think they are just about perfect for a fixed blade edc.

Tho the Gen5 is my favorite fixed edc.
It needs a better sheath tho.

LOL! Yes, I agree…should’ve purchased one when they were cheaper and available. I’m hoping it will be back in stock in the future and not too expensive. I have my own “mini” Buck collection and plan on adding a Ranger 112 along with this particular Cocobolo version of the 117. I did grab a Mesa yrs ago at my local Wally World and was surprised they haven’t been reintroduced since their original release. Keeping my fingers crossed.

The one I have is 420hc blade, cocobolo and brass handle. It’s a great utility size and doesn’t take up much room but still plenty of blade at 4.5 inches and a good grip handle. I would love it if they had one in s35vn like the pro models. But the 420 hc blade is very tough and it keeps a good decent edge for a while.

I totally agree... a 117 Pro in S35VN would be great... maybe a BOTM possibility? We can only dream....

This^^^…..and if it also had a Cocobolo handle, Wow!!! Maybe even a coated blade like the Cabelas/Bass Pro Shops 110. Wow! That would be awesome…

You could always sign up for notifications.
And if you had you would know they are in stock now........

fyi, bcci has a shokwood, 420hc run...it aint cheap but available for sale on the site for members.
I was all excited and went to look but they have a 102 size handle and just to small for me. Dog gone it seems like the ones they come out with lately are hitting outside the mark for me. im hoping they make a s35vn pro model.

You may have misread that.
I copied/pasted this from BCCI site;

The Model 117 is a smaller version of the Buck 119 and about the same blade length as the 102 and the same blade thickness but with a larger handle than the 102.

Handle material - shokwood, butt and guard are standard aluminum with micarta spacer, 420HC Blade with BCCI logo, black leather sheath.

Certificate of authenticity included. Only 130 Knives will be produced.

Well in the picture it says with 102 shockwood handle. And it looks much slimmer than my standard 117 cocobolo.
