Check out this sweet Bowie knife I made using baker forge and tool’s double dam cu shim steel. It is 1084/15n20 Damascus with a copper shim. The whole knife is 12 inches long with a 6 7/8” blade. Its almost a full flat grind. The handle is giraffe bone and masur birch burl. It’s definitely beautiful and it’s made to be used. It will come in a the case shown above. Thanks for checking it out. Price is 750 dollars anywhere in the US. I have an Etsy page you can purchase it on or I also have paypal.

Truly a magnificent knife! One question puzzles me: apart from this piece being for display only, were it to be used and sharpened over the years, what does one do when the edge approaches the copper vein? Is the core homogeneous and the copper on the outside cladding only? I apologize in advance if my ignorance prevents a thorough understanding of its construction. Still, absolutely gorgeous!

Thank you! So the entire core of the knife is the Damascus 1084/15n20. The copper is a cladding and the second layer of Damascus is over the top of the copper. I’m not sure if I explained it right, but if it helps you can see the copper shims running down the center of the spine and handle. So if it gets sharpened to the point where the edge has copper, the center of the edge still will be steel. Of course I’d always be willing to regrind it and refinish it again if it gets to that point.

Thanks very much for the explanation. Makes perfect sense! Good luck, it’s beautiful!
