Have a customer wanting a large blacksmith knife but didn't want a wrapped leather handle like I normally use. Here's what I used instead.

I had some copper left over so I used it on a W1 knife I finished today.

Your comments are welcome as always. Thanks for looking.

Now that's cool! I was thinking of using some small diameter steel cable on one, but never did. Might have to revisit that thought after seeing yours!!! Awesome!

Keith, There is a slight overlap of the ends that was beaten flat so the overall thickness was the same. Soft solder was used to join them. After staining the wood, super glue was dribbled over and through the wire to further secure it.

I was thinking just like Keith! So my question was asked and answered! Nicely ties in with the rustic look of the first knife and adds nice character to the second one.

I never stop being amazing at what folks here come up with.
Nice work!!
The twists are so consistant.
How did you make the twists??

The twist is easy. You need a vise, a variable speed drill, and a threaded hook( ie. lag hook, bolt hook).
Use a piece of bare copper wire 2 1/2 times the finished length you require. Put the two ends in the side of the vise, one above the other and touching (ie 8) Tighten the vise firmly.
Put the hook in the drill and place it in the loop formed by the wire. Pull back firmly and start the drill at low RPM. Maintain a steady pull against the wire.
Keep twisting until the twist are tight and even.
If you want the flat look as in the second knife, put the twisted wire on your anvil and using light taps with a hammer, flatten the wire. It takes some practice to keep the"figure 8 loops" even.
I am not good at explaining, so feel free to ask questions.:)
