I finally got around to posting this little guy!

I was sent the plans for the original Musso Bowie knife by another maker and sat on it for almost 8 months. As Blade 2013 approached, I felt the need to make something special, so I dusted off the plans and got started. It is hard to add anything to this classic but I did my best to personalize it. I had high hopes to finish this blade in time for the show and enter it into the Best Bowie category. I just made it in time to send it off to Atlanta, ahead of me. Unfortunately, there were complications with shipping and my knives missed the first day(along with the contests)..... bah!

When it finally came in on Saturday, I had a list of folks to show it to for constructive criticism. To my surprise, it was a big hit and the bummer of missing the contest was soon behind me. To have some of my all-time favorite makers and collectors tell me "... you done good." was all I needed to hear. Thanks!

Here are some progress pics...

After forging and rough profiling...

Bevels are roughed in and the fittings, started...

that's the one! You got my vote :)

You sicken me sir. I absolutely despise "rustic" looking pieces, yet for some reason I find myself experiencing not want but downright lust for every knife you make. How dare you! One of these days Rick there shall be a reckoning, and I fear that my wallet will not escape unscathed.

Great job, Rick! The copper and wrapped handle are a nice departure from the drawing. Makes the original like like a sick sister. I got the plans too and always intended to make a Musso, maybe someday soon..

simply fantastic knife there. Nothing I dislike about it, and I really can't think of anything I don't love. I would like that same knife with a copper accent, but minus the copper sleeve on the spine if I was ordering one. I love the classic look, but have never had experience with one as a user, so am not sure. I would just have to run around chopping stuff with it, it just looks to great as a user not to!

Very nice. I was so enthralled by the knife at Blade I never noticed the sheath, but it as much a work of art as the knife.

It's a magnificent piece.....amazingly nimble in-hand and wonderfully balanced. :)

Truly one of my favorites and, yes, the sheath is superb.

Man your style is just so kick ass. I love everything about this blade and the classic style it has, but it still really screams Rick Marchand! and that's what I love about it most :D I'm curious as to how the copper on the spine is finally secured into place..? Thanks for sharing man, you work is a great inspiration to me :)

Very Nice execution of a classic design. Looks like it could have stepped right out of history. As fine a job on a Musso blade and guard as I have seen, not particularly fond of the handle treatment. A very creative sheath.:thumbup::thumbup:
