Anybody know where I can get a 1/2" thick copper bar for a gaurd? I've got plenty of 1/4", but for this design I need 1/2", and the customer wants copper.

Thanks

Speedy Metals is the place to go.
I have a few bars of that, Will. Rather than buy a full piece, I'd cut a piece for you if you need it.

I also have some if you need. No sense in buying a length of it if you only need a little bit. Probably be a while before you use it again.

Thanks guys, I definatly don't want a lot of it, though I'll probably order a foot just to have some on hand for the next time, though like some of the things in my shop I don't know when I'll ever use them!

My shop is full of stuff that I'll never use but you never know when you'll need them. I think smiths tend to pack rat a bit more than stock removal guys from what I've seen.

"Yeah I'd better keep this piece of 7/197" x 3" rod just in case I need to make a micro fuller for something, this'll come in handy... Ohhh this piece of copper will make a great spacer for a small handle." as you toss it into a shoe box with 15 pounds of other copper space material.

ain't that the truth! One rule that seems to be a constant though is that you dig through your junk and find that you need two pieces and only have one, or that the piece of scrap is 1" too short.

What gets me is when I think I have something and can't find it. Man that can drive me wild. I usually find stuff I have be missing and gave up on finding. See stuff that later I will remember seeing but, hmmmm where. LOL I have way to much "good stuff"

Has anybody tried there aluminum bronze? I ordered a small bar of it to see how it polishes up, we'll see. If it works it'll be a good source of bronze for me, I'm about out of my old stock.

I haven't used much copper, I'll see how I like this.

I've tried it a little -- rough shaped a pair of bolsters for a blade that I've abandoned. I like the color, but that stuff is HARD. Hand filing was very slow going. I'll be using it some more though; got two bars to play with.
