thank you again bobby, haven't talked to anyone on here yet its is good to hear feed back on ones work, thanks again, Love your work, the chopper that was an inch to long April 28 i think? what is the oal on that? I am making a chopper right know my self, i put some pic's up so you can see. Thanks again..

j.e.spencer,

That piece was 16" O.A.L., with a blade of 11". It was forged from 5160, that steel is really tough. That was my first real chopper and I forged it too be a "Competition Cutter", but is was just an inch too long. I didn't have the heart to grind off the extra inch. She chops real good though. My buddy had 3 large red oaks on his property cut down the other week. He asked if I wanted to give one of my knives a workout, so I brought it over. After about 3 hours of chopping, there was no visible edge damage and she still went through 1" manila rope like butter. I love that steel!

Can't wait to see pics of your next chopper. :)

me to, that steel seems to get sharper the more it is used. I like 1095 but love 5160 i want to get ahold of some 52100 and try that i have heard that it is just as durable

I've not tried the 52100, but have heard good things about it too. I started with 1095.....although, I learned later that it's a steel that needs to be quickly quenched. Probably wasn't the best steel for me to start with, but I can get a hamon without even trying. That steel is super tough and takes a nasty edge to boot.

well i started with L-6 and then on to 1095, have cracked a few but that is what its all about when you mess with fire, steel and water. L-6 is very nice just hard to find not cheap either real L-6 anyway the alternative I have heard is nice yet to use it though.

hello, I have dropped the price of this knife $50.00 I can not go any lower than that,to much time invested, thanks for any and all comments:
