The subject pretty well describes my question. For Corby bolts what are the ideas of nickel silver vs SS material? Both are pretty close to the same color. Either should have much more strength than is required. Comments please on use of nickel silver vs SS Corby bolts.

Nickle silver is easier to grind and hand sand flush but will yellow a bit over time. Stainless heats up quickly if not careful and can ruin your glue joint.

I use NS unless the color just wouldn't work.

I use stainless. The majority of my knives are stainless also. I like knowing that they aren't going to tarnish/change color.

One thing to be concerned about is, if you buff a wood handle will the nickel silver smear and make the wood around it look bad. I like to use stainless for everything.

i use the stainless threaded bolt with nickel round nuts. i like the slight color variation. what i do not like about the nickel is even if you do not handle it, it develops a yellowish/ faint straw patina over a few months.

I like the look of Loveless bolts with brass screws/rods & N/S heads but as far as Corby's go I like SS. Just be cautious when finishing them so they don't overheat. Actually that should hold true for all fasteners.

I have noticed the "yellowish" tinge to the nickel silver, but just accepted it as that's what it is..... and it doesn't look all that bad. I've not noticed nickel silver smearing any more while buffing than does SS. Got to be VERY careful with both not to get color on wood, AND to keep it from overheating.

I've not used any Loveless bolts yet - but the idea of having brass screws with N/S nuts sounds interesting. I'll have to try that.

Thanks to all for comments -
