I'm trying to do a cord wrap over eelskin on a tanto that I forged last weekend. I've founded hundreds of paracord wraps, but can't seem to find a WIP for the traditional japanese handle. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I thought I remember seeing a thread in the stickies on this. You might want to search there.

The search word is tsukamaki or tsuka-maki .
Use that and you will get lots of tutorials for traditional silk wrapped Japanese handles. IIRC, I also put a bunch of info in the stickies.

Drat! Now I have to completely redesign the handle I was planning. Now I need to make a habaki, sepoa, tsuba, and fuchi! Problem is that I have already heat treated and didn't put in any holes for pins.

No, I was originally thinking of something more Samazashi style but with the traditional tsuka wrap instead of the paracord wrap.

What type of material works best for tsuka maki ? And would you use resin epoxy ofter you tie it ?

No need to have all the Koshirae, tsukamaki can be done on any type of handle. It will look better with it, but a simple tanto with no fittings at all can be wrapped. A Turk's head not will replace the fuchi and forward fittings.

Silk makes the best wrap, but cotton, leather, and even paracord with the core pulled out can be used.
Silk and cotton are traditionally not treated to make them permanent, but paracord wraps are usually lightly impregnated with resin. The amount is just enough to absorb without looking like there is any resin on it. I guess yopu could do the same with silk or cotton if you wanted more permanence.
