This thread over at Practical Tactical piqued my interest:

Does anybody know more about this treatment (hopefully Mick or Duane)? Has anyone tried their own cord treatment, and how did it work out?

The cord works great on its own.
Greg was speaking of the fact that in the desert, with extreme heat in the day and extreme cold at night, the cord moves a bit and can get sand under and inside and abrade the handle.
To overcome this issue, try using super glue. We do.
