Cord-wrapped handle, re-grind

Howdy gents-

I've had this for a while but haven't been satisfied with it and so didn't show it here. A while back my stepdad got me a bunch of knife-making gear, amongst it several blades without handles, some with unfinished grinds, etc.

This one had a completed blade, but a massive handle with huge finger grooves. I loved the blade shape (looks a whole lot like an F1) but despised the handle. So I ground the handle down a lot and removed what I could of the finger grooves. Due to the design, it's hard to make a straight line on the 'front' of the handle, which would make it look better if slabs were added. So until I decided whether to handle it 'as is' or try silver soldering an area or two, I just cord wrapped it.

Anyway, it's a pretty decent field blade right now. I'd like to make it a little thicker, though, but putting some rubber-wrap underneath the cord wrap.

Just past the first finger groove, you can see the second depression. It was a consequence of the odd grooves it had initially. It sits too far back for me to really look at it as a 'second' finger groove, and I'd like it to be flat there.

Thanks for looking folks!

If it were mine, I'd grind it until the bottom of the handle was flat, or maybe a bit "swell-ended."

Thought about it, but it would make it too 'short' in the hand. I've got big mitts and my complaint about most knives is their tiny handles, so it'd be a shame to put this one to that fate.

eeek man. That thing had 2 of my least favorite features, a monster choil, and huge finger grooves:barf:

Looks ALOT better now. Good job bro!

No kidding! It was really monstrous. But the blade shape really called out for help, had to save it!! Now the choil is just an overzealous first finger groove.
