I'll be getting my first batch of blades back from HT any day now! I'm wanting to put a satin finish on them and was told to get a cork belt. My question is what grit? I took the hollow grinds down to 320 before i sent them out to HT. Some of my grinds were kind of wavy on some of them, and I was told that the satin finish is a lot mor forgiving than a mirror. So for my first few I thought I would try this.
Thanks for the help in advance! I know I'll get plenty from you guys. This has got to be one of the best forums of any kind. I rarely post because I can usually find someone that has asked my or a similar question. Hopefully one day I can help another newbie like myself.:p

thanks! wow, after reading that I'm wonering if I should go with something else, for the time being, because i dont really have anything to break it in on. Is there another type belt that will give me the satin finish I'm looking for?

yep scotch brite belts not sure how the trade name is spelled

jsut like the pas sept in belt form

me i like a A120 gator belt or maybe a A65

I do have a friend who uses cork belts on a 1"x30" sander and swears by them. He doesn't break them in just go's at em with his knife. Looks like a mud storm with a new belt.

I'm a huge fan of cork belts!! if you use then before breaking in you get a very nice blended grind line look.which i like far better then scotchbright!just be sure you keep the blade in the "groove"....

i took this up to 400 grit, then hit lightly with a barely broken in 600 cork belt:
