Hey guys,
I have another skinner available today, but this one is unique. I found a new (to me) handle material and decided to try it out. It is stabilized corn cob and I think it turned out great! Let me know what you guys think.
Here are some specs:
CPM154 steel 1/8" thick
Hollow ground
Satin grinds and mill scale flats
Stabilized corn cob handles with black liners
OAL: 7" Edge: 3"
The knife will come in a leather sheath made by Scott Davidson
Price: SOLD
Price includes shipping and paypal fees. My paypal is jsfleming15@yahoo.com

Thanks for looking!

Jarrett,
That corn cob handle is very interesting. Almost looks reptilian in nature.
Did you do the stabilization yourself?

Hey Rhinoknives1,
I did not do the stabilization myself. I bought the cob from a supplier and spilt it into scales to put them on the knife.

I have never seen stabilized corn cob either, and I agree it looks like snake skin to my eyes. Nice work

This thing is amazing looking. From the grinds to the scales. Really unique and useful looking.

Nicely done!

wow thats really cool i bet it looks a lot more glossy in person. I bet there is a lot of different things you could do with all the different colored corn. i've seen pine cone scales on here before those are very cool too

I saw a stabilized pine cone handle recently too.

So once a material is "stabilized" is it pretty much "bomb proof"???

Wow that is a cool looking knife. Wish I knew the posted price as I'm entertaining that cob on a knife idea for my farmer brother in law.

Drew,
The term stabilization gets thrown around alot.
There are a few different kinds of acrylic that are used and I personally only use stabilized woods or send my woods to It's a burl, WSSI, Faron Moore, K & G & the folks that do those Pine cones etc. Exotron or something like that? I am on a ipad and can't look it up right now but they do great work.

To really awnser your question. Stabilzation makes woods, Bone, Horn & plant materials less likely to shrink, warp or crack providing it's professionally done. Bomb proof? Not really. But its a big improvement and you can use stuff like Corn Cobs, Cal Buckeye wood and red flame Ash wood etc that would normally be to soft and punky to use for a knife handle and Maple, Koa and many others will benefit from it.

These days there are folks with a old pressure cooker a aquarium pump and a can of miniwax wood hardener that call themselves professional stabilizers and that just isn't true.

So, chose wisely
