These were used to remove corns from one's feet in the good old days. This one has ivory scales. It stamped with Joseph Haywood & Co and the kettle trademark. Not sure whether this an original Joseph Haywood & co knife or one made after 1902 when the name and mark were bought by Needham Veall & Tyzack and subsequently sold on to Thomas Turner? Any other corn knives out there?

Beautiful knife, s-k! Nice find, and you make it so enjoyable with your bits of history.
Scary practice though; cutting one's flesh!!

I got my education about corn knives from Mr. Bose. Quite the curious practice back then eh; doing ones own knip-tuck on the ole dogs. :D

Tony has a few corn knives so here we go again! There's a flood 'O corn knives comin' pa!:p

I was just thinkin'....kettle trademark and corn knife in the same sentence made me think of kettle corn. OMG I think I'm folksy!:o

Thanks for the replies everyone. Looking forward to seeing Tony's corn knives. mmmm.... kettle corn.

I can honestly say, I had never heard of this type of knife until today. That's what I love about this forum, you never know what kind of "folksy" thing you're gonna hear or see next. :D

You think so? Try this: When I was a kid and had an infected foot with veruccas, the doctor prescribed an ointment which softened them, then you had to cut off the softened flesh with an old fashioned Wilkinson-sword safety razor blade.Cut too much or deep and you sliced living flesh not dead cells:eek: Medieval eh?

Would have preferred that knife to that razor blade:D

I don't have any corn knives right now, but I have a couple of corn razors(same purpose). I will try to put up some pics when I get home in a few days.

Being from Ohio originally I of course though that this was a knife for the other type of Corn.
Well don't I feel silly.

This is Tony's lone corn knife. I was thinking he had more but this is a pretty "cute" one. This is a very delicate little knife.

That is a very nice e.g. Tony. I like the script on the handle. Who made that one please? I can't make out the tang stamp. Thanks

That is a IXL G.Wostenholm stamped knife if I remember right. You can just barely make out the Wostenholm in that image. I will get a closer shot of the tang later and put it up.

I have used my Spyderco Police numerous times to crop back corns on the pads of my foot and for other minor home surgery and personal grooming. Thin straight blade and very sharp, not really that much different then the corn knife pictured.
