Correct Me If Im Wrong About 01 Steel

01 is a tool steel,am I right ? Cold steel doesn't refer to it as a tool steel just high carbon,but aren't they the same? I have someone thinking im frauding people by saying 01 is a tool steel . Agoogle search says it is, so im I the tool or is the accuser the tool ?
 
To my understanding, 01 is indeed a tool steel.

I have a cold steel recon scout for sale in 01 and I listed it as 01 tool steel, he claims its just a high carbon steel, like on the cs website,but even though its not advertised by them as a tool steel it still is,so he sent a nasty email to me claiming im a fraud and im trying to fool people into buying it by saying its a tool steel.a2 and d2 are considered tool steels,too glad im not selling anything made of those :rolleyes:

I have always been of the opinion that it was an upgrade from basic carbon steels. Many custom makers use it. Some of my favorite makers, in fact.

So I would call it a darn fine tool steel.... does that make me a fraud?
 
The 'O ' if for OIL the quenchant ! That designations series is for tool steels !!
 
Here was the last email I got from him ; Here is the CS listing for the knife. Read it. No where, does it say TOOL STEEL, that's just you, making sh-t up. he thinks im making this up to spin lies to sell a knife.. Can anyone believe this ? I copied and sent him this thread.

Someone willing to send an email this offensive just needs to be ignored. I sure as heck would not sell him a darn thing!
 
Tell him to call Cold Steel. They'll likely tell him over the phone that it's a tool steel.

well...if this person is talking Cold Steel ad copy (or anybody's ad copy) as "metallurgical gospel", he or she is naive, at best.

He or she is probably very confused as to why all the knives that are made of "surgical steel" are not scalpels.
 
You can also invite him to google "tool steel" and see how often O1 is mentioned. And if you go on the wiki page look under the "cold work" group.
 
You might point out to him that a whole boatload of people make knives from spring steel and you almost never see them mention it in ad copy.
 
01 is my favorite tool steel. That dude is just the number 1 tool. I can see why his pride was hurt. Poor 01 tool stealing people's thunder cause it rocks.
