I bought a folding hunter at a gun show yesterday. It came with a sheath marked Old Timer and is brown in color. Is this the marking the original sheath had or did it say Schrade? The knife is in excellent condition with no rust or stains. I paid $30.00. was this a good price?

I think that is a pretty good price for a USA 25OT.

Here is one I bought a few weeks back new old stock with sheath, box and paperwork.

Not the best shot of the sheath but it says "Old Timer" on it. 99 percent sure you have the original sheath if it looks like this one.

...you didn't mention if your Folding Hunter is a Schrade or Schrade Walden 25OT........if it was a Walden your sheaths would have looked like this.....Hoo Roo

The sheath is actually like IWT210's. I used some saddle soap and brown shoe polish and it looks almost like new. The knife itself does look like new. What amazes me is finding carbon steel blades this old that are still shiny with no rust stains or pitting. The ones like these must have seen very little if any use. I personally would use mine but only for light duty. They're more to look at since the USA made ones are no more.

It looks like the ones stamped Old Timer like mine and one of yours had the belt piece of leather riveted rather tan sewn.good idea except for scratching the knife.

Yeah, folks back didn't care much about scratching the knife. Schrades were the workhorses and not for collecting. I love those sheaths though. Very well made and functional.

I have a 'whole bunch' of Schrade and Schrade-Walden Folding Hunters, but none have that straight side-curved side sheath. was this an optional sheath or for special runs, or ??
and, Larry, what does etch say on your knife that goes with this unusual sheath ?

G'day Roland,
Alaskan Old Timer Hunter etch. Larry V has brochures and adverts for these examples with these sheaths on his Schrades R Us site.

Looks like I made a good buy on the folding hunter. I had it appraised at 100-125.00. don't want to sell it but makes you feel goo!

Where did you get an appraisal, if you don't mind me asking? Someone is always wanting to know what a knife is worth around here. Does yours come with the original box and paperwork?

That sounds a bit inflated to me but is not too far off the mark. I am sure a Schrade Walden would fetch closer to a bill or more if it were in pristine shape.

I paid (including shipping) 52.15 for the one I posted in the pic above. With box and paperwork.

A history search on that auction site shows that one in better condition than mine (basically mint with the white sleeve on the box) sold for about ten dollars more.

Another one in fine shape went for 77.00 and change. So 80.00 bucks and down is what I have seen. Your mileage may vary.

No I didn't get the paper work with this one. i did get the box and paper work on a scrimshaw sharpfinger from the same seller. Anyway the folding hunter was appraised at the antiques dept. at SMKW
