First, my apologies to all for the initial bungled attempt at the survey summary. I have spent a considerable amount of time in an effort to make sure this version is both accurate and informative. Still, there are several possible sources of error or, at least, coarseness in the results based on methodology. Details such as kami, handle material, blade finish and other options are ignored in order to produce a managable summary. When length was unspecified I either made an educated guess or indicated "unspecified" in the results. When the specified length was close to but not exactly equal to a standard length appearing in the HI web site I assigned the closest standard dimension. When there was a significant length discrepancy I assigned a new category to specified length. In some cases I used blade or design categories that I am, despite resonable attempts at research, totally unfamiliar with. This "newbie factor" raises the possibility that I may have included two or more names for essentially the same blade or design. Hopefully this factor will be limited to the less mainstream items. Finally, there is the possibility of the everpresent goof factor. What can I say?

So much for the disclaimers. Now for the results. First, in terms of the categories of blade design, I obtained the following:

1. Ang Khola (25 votes)

2. Ganga Ram Special (18 votes)

3. World War II and BDC (14 votes each)

4. Foxy Folly (13 votes)

5. M43 (12 votes)

6. Chitlangi and Sirupati (11 votes each)

7. Kerambit and Pen Knife (9 votes each)

8. Yvse Cherokee Special (8 votes)

9. Sarge (7 votes)

10. BAS, Jange, Kumar Karda, Gelbu Special (6 votes each)

In terms of individual blades, the following results were obtained:

1. 18" Ganga Ram Special (12 votes)

2. 18" M43 and 17" Foxy Folly (11 votes each)

3. Kerambit and Pen Knife (9 votes each)

4. 21" Chitlangi, 14" BDC, Yvsa Cherokee Special (8 votes each)

5. Sarge, 16.5" WWII, 18" WWII (7 votes each)

6. 16.5" Chiruwa AK, 18" AK, 18" Sirupati, Jange, Kumar Karda (6 votes ea)

7. 20" Ang Khola (5 votes)

8. 15" AK, BDC (Unspec. Length), Seaux, UB Memorial Salyan, JKM-1,
Kothimoda (4 votes each)

9. 15" GRS, 22" GRS, 18" Chitlangi, 15" Sirupati, Malla, BirGhorka Bowie,
Uncle Bill Especial, Sher Attitude, 18" Gelbu Special, 21" Gelbu Special,
25" Kobra, Manjushree Sword, Tarwar (3 votes each)

10. 25" AK, Stretched Foxy Folly, 20" Sirupati, 18" BDC, Everest Katana,
Hanuman, Bura Special, Yangdu Special Katunje, 18" Tin Chirra,
Himalayan Katana (2 votes each)

Well, this exercize has been useful to me already. My next purchase will be an 18" Ganga Ram Special. You can't go wrong with a winner, and I already have an M43. Interesting that the top design is the Ang Khola, possibly due to the extensive length options, but that the highest ranked AK blades are the 16.5" Chiruwa AK and the 18" AK, which were both in sixth place. Enjoy.
:)

Thanks a lot for putting this together, bwray! I appreciate the reference material and I'm glad to see my two 'next buy' items rated well: the Pen knife and the WWII (both sizes tied at fifth! now what am I supposed to do?)

You hone your sharking skills and if you don't have any you need to order the software about how to shapeshift. Don't order the ones for a Mac as their program only shapeshifts everyone into, well I can't say that here.:p ;) :D

Anyway you get them in the order they come out in YDOTD's.:D
