Corrosion Resistance of O1

I have made a few knives out of O1. I have two of them ready and sold. I am going to tell them that it is a high carbon steel that holds an edge better than most stainlees steel knives and it needs to have a light coat of mineral oil to keep rust from forming. I will also tell them that it will develop a patina over time. What else am I missing?

if they or anyone should touch the blade itself (metal) to degrease it immediately ! :) Nothing like rust in the shape of someone's finger prints ! LOL.

Hopefully the sheaths are not kydex as Kydex and Oil of any kind will attract some major debris and stuff which will cause some nasty surface scratches !

I think if one takes good care of their 01 blades, there should be no patina forming anytime soon within their life times.

I don't really have rusting issues with 01 as long as I wipe it on my pant leg after use.

I made a blade for my sister in law once...and she lived by the beach...and like to touch the "pretty" metal...long story short...a few months later, a blade covered in rust !

Just tell them it's O-1, and it will rust like a bitch, if you let it.

Tell them it will rust if you look at it funny or think bad thoughts about it. The knives I use in the field are O1 and they don't stay pretty for long but they do the job.

We all know that the corrosion resistance of O1 is low. :)

I have some custom presentation pieces in the steel, that never see any use, and still
I've got to be on them with some anti-corrosive agent like white on rice to keep them completely clean.

So you're saying that a salt water environment is no good for carbon steel? Hmm. ;)
