Cosmetic flaws on new small insingo!

Hello everyone,

I ordered a new sebenza small 21 insingo beginning of this week from knives ship free. I requested to have knife inspected before leaving. I received my knife today, everything is great except for 2 polished spots on each titanium handle slab at the tip of the handle when blade is closed facing downward. I called crk and they said it's covered under warranty and they will cover shipping cost both ways. That's all fine and dandy but what gives? Anyone have this issue before or one similar on a new knife? I already shipped it back today. They will have it by Tuesday. I am frustrated. What if it comes back worse than before? 😣

I have read any post I could find on crk. Very few go back and I've never read one that said it came back anything less than perfect.

Would like to see pics?

Although pretty spot on, CRK's are production knives and sometimes little slip ups happen. The good news? CRK will take care of it...dont worry!

Occasionally that type of thing can happen. It's rare, but not impossible. My first and only CRK came directly from the factory, and had a blemish in the bead blast finish on the back of the handle. At first I was disappointed, but then I got over it. I use the knife every single day, so it doesn't bother me. As soon as I started using the knife I was so amazed by how it performed, that I didn't even thing about dinging it. It would be a completely different story if it were a CGG or a unique graphic. I wouldn't sweat it too much. Just use the knife, and put some of your own scratches on it.

I've never personally had a CRK arrive less than perfect, but it's not unheard of. Can you post pics?

As others have said, CRK will definitely make it right. KSF might even swap it out for a new one if you ask. That would be a quicker option, probably.

Thank you all for the fast replies. It's a rough world, nice to talk with you knife people for an uplifting in this situation. I did not take pictures. I was in a hurry to send it back to get fixed fast. The spots are very small. She said they debur after knife is together. Probably lightly touched wheel on debur tool. My lock up is 50 percent I hope it stays that way.

If they just have to refinish the handles it shouldn't affect your lockup at all.

I hope your able to keep it mint for the life of the knife as just handling it with a wedding ring will scuff the Ti. My Sebenza 25 I bought years ago came with a scratch. I seen it and was like damn. Carried it for several years now and the finish is smooth in some places and probably has 1000 scratches on it. It's made to use, but I see your point. You want to put the first scuffs on it......lol

Not that this helps... but I work in account management for an IT company.

In talking with client contacts I tell them, while we strive for perfection, issues happen. I always say judge us as well on how we react when an issue occurs. Sounds like CRK stepped up said they would make it right and are paying postage both ways. Nice definitive response from them.

One other question... could the marks have occurred while in possession of the dealer? Did you talk with them before CRK?

Just got the same model from the same place last week.

Pocket clip has a good amount of side to side play. I made sure it was tightened down, took it off and put it back on and it's still there.

Really don't want to send a brand new knife back to CRK and wait 8 weeks for it.

If the knife was just purchased and arrived at your door with some sort of defect (like the pocket clip issue above), I would contact the dealer and request a replacement. They should have no issues with that. Sending a brand new knife in for warranty service is unacceptable in my mind, especially when the turnaround can be 2+ months.

Contact the dealer, explain the situation, and let them deal with CRK. Just my two cents.

I think it's worth reiterating - for those who may be reading this before their first CRK purchase - that these types of issues are very rare with Chris Reeve Knives. I personally own 10 CRKs. 9 of them were bought brand new direct or from a dealer, all of which arrived absolutely perfect. The quality control is typically beyond compare, but this sort of thing is inevitable in any production product.

If you're worried about having an issue with such an expensive purchase, you can take solace in the fact that this particular company stands behind their product 100%. Years after your date of purchase, they'll still have your back.

I am single not married so no ring marks for me. But yes, I like to wear my own items not have them flawed from the factory.

Yes, knife was new in box at dealer.

This does not surprise me at all. I do not feel defects from crk is rare. I have seen plenty. They do have a decent warranty.

I disagree, they are rare.
Next time you see "plenty" with defects take some pics.
Did you take any pics of this knife ?

It's been nice to read how you guys feel. I am starting to focus my attention to other great knife makers. Chris Reeve Knives is changing. I will not be buying an inkosi now or ever. Company is cutting cost but yet the profit margin is already huge in the product they are manufacturing. Losing interest fast! It's okay though, plenty of good knives to buy from other companies. :)

^ From last month. Glad to see you haven't lost all of your interest in CRK though:thumbup:

Wow, some strong words in here.

I bought my Sebenza 25 used, from a friend that had never used it. He took it apart once to look at the differences between the 25 and his 21 and when putting it back together he pinched a washer. This made the deployment pretty gritty and the blade was off center. I bought it from him for cheap expecting to send it right to CRK to fix. Well, I was hooked day one so it never went. I worked it enough that the deployment eased up and was pretty smooth, but never centered. That knife has trimmed sheetrock, skinned a few animals, killed a deer (not joking), trimmed branches, pried open beer bottles (scales, not blade), cut up worms for fishing, trimmed tags off my daughter's dresses, opened snacks for the kids and just generally been used as a tool for the entire time I've owned it. I bought it two years ago. Just this week, I've finally sent it in for a spa treatment and asked specifically that they not reblast the titanium. CRK's look good with use. That's why I love how "plain" they are. They're a perfect canvas for you to paint your own story of scratches and marks into. A few little blemishes would have been impossible to spot after a few months of carry and love.

I have always said that every scratch or scuff on your sebenza is an adventure you were on with your sebenza.

You need to contact KSF instead of CRK IMO; Derrick is a great guy and he will make it right. Also, you should have taken pics and posted them so you would have a before and after comparison.
I know getting a brand new knife with marks on it is not fun, but why not just use it like it is intended and add your own character to it? It will not look new forever short of staying in its box!
I may be off base here...but it feels like you have a hidden agenda.

To say that defects from CRK are plentiful is complete nonsense. While mistakes do happen and can be missed, that is certainly not a common occurrence. Their QC is very good.

As far as their warranty goes, they offer free sharpening and spa treatments for life. They stand behind their materials, manufacturing, and assembly 100%. They will replace or repair any knife that is found to have a warranty issue for the life of the owner. I'm not sure how their warranty could be any better.

If you have an issue with a knife (or any other product) in the future, I would strongly encourage you to take pictures of it and contact the seller before shipping the product back to the manufacturer. Resellers are usually pretty good about helping their customers with problems that arise with brand new product.

Everybody has an opinion. I personally trust crk more than any dealler. That is why I sent it back to manufacturer. Things happen, I am just very bummed about is all. Just a knife. I am sure it will come back fixed. I will take pictures when I get it back.
