Backpacked this trail with my wife Sara recently. It runs along the river for 12.4 miles. Some of the signage actually indicated 14.5 miles which is incorrect. Camping in designated campsites only. Although the trail runs along the river, much of it does not offer a view of it. Plenty of spots to hike down to the river. Cossatot Falls is the main attraction....the early Indians named the river Cossatot which means skull crusher. This trail has 39 bridges!

The wood with the BK-9 I brought with me, but I did use the 9 to split it up before the trip. The BK16 is on a fatwood stump and I am also standing next to a piece of fatwood that is taller than me in the fourth picture.

Wow man, have to put this on my list of places to see. Beautiful area man, thanks for posting.

That's a beautiful hike man. Going to check that one out. Thanks for the pics.

Looks to be about 600 miles from here. Gonna do this one sometime.

One important thing about Arkansas if you partake in liquid refreshment....much of the national forest, etc. are in the dry counties. Below is a map, don't know how current.

Great TR. Looks like a beautiful place to backpack. River crossings are always awesome, but 39 of them? Sweet. Thanks for posting.

Only one of the 39 bridges cross the river. The bridges cross some real nice creeks; many have nice waterfalls. Some of the bridges are pretty big for a trail bridge. Very well built.

You also cross the river on two low water bridges.

Looks like a real nice area to hike. The color in the wood with your bk9 is amazing too.

Freshcut Eastern Red Cedar does look reddish purple to me. Sometimes more purple than red. It slowly fades to a dull red when dried out of the weather. Smells great too, but lessens as it dries.

I find logs laying around all the time....everywhere. We have so much oak, hickory, etc. lots consider it trash wood. Just before this trip I found a couple logs about 6-8' long in the highway right of way. Probably storm damage. Just laying on the ground. I just take my Silky saw, cut them into 18" pieces and usually split them into quarters. I even baton most of the outer white portion off along with the bark and they turn out real clean looking like the picture. They split pretty easy if they don't have lots of knots(then I use a couple wedges that do the job!). I let them dry really well inside & makes everything smell wonderful.

My, my ain't that some kinda beautiful.......Wow........ Arkansas is one lovely state and you got to hike some of the nicest parts....... Lucky you !!!!!....... Thanks for the ride along and the pix...... I am jealous......

Looks like a great hike.

Thanks for all the great photos!

My brain is having a hard time processing the texture of some of those rocks in the creek. They almost look out of place.

Beautiful pics.

That's some dramatic water-worked rock in the picture under the one with the BK 9. Looks like you would have lots of opportunities to boil water by dropping heated stones into those natural "pots."

Beautiful pics, looks like a wonderful place to hike through. Thanks for sharing!

Looks like a great place to spend the day. Great job with the pics.
