costco has a kit on sale

I've seen a five gallon barrel O' dried emergency rations at ****** awhile ago.

I think it was probably one of their food kits. They sell a bucket that has 275 servings or food for around 85$.

The interesting thing is that all of their survival kit type stuff has a note on it that says "Due to overwhelming demand, may take 10-15 days to deliver". Not surprising with everything going on lately.

It was that one. And I was lazy. I just assumed that there'd end up being an adequate discussion about the kit, which is the real reason I posted.

I was trying to do too many things at once. What I should have posted is:

Has anyone looked at this, or the company that makes it? It's made by a company called "Food for Heath International". They've actually got 55 packets in the bucket, with 5 servings in a packet. I haven't been able to see what the definition of a serving is.

With our household, 5 servings plus soe other odds and ends like cocoa or rice or whatnot makes a solid group meal.

I'm also curious about what the lifespan is if the storage temp goes up. The label lists 20 years at 60 degrees and 10 at 70 degrees.

! Can we have a link repost? I'm digging around on their site and I can't find anything.

Sweet, here is a link to the companies product page: http://www.foodforhealthint.com/emergency.php

You can order samples, and they also have an emergency kit, with less food, and more gear.

They have en emergency stove as well, but the image is too poor to tell what kind of fuel it is. My guess is something similar to sterno?

You really need to check their nutritional label for fat, sugar, and salt added. A lot of packaged foods, even so-called "lite" foods, will add loads of sodium to up the taste.

If they are pretty clean on fat, sugar, and salt, they may be a good way to supplement a real meal, rather than make the meal by themselves.

okay, thanks for finding the direct link without the costco price thing.

Esav- I'm looking at it and mostly thinking about caching the two spots we have available (friends cabin in the sierra and wife's grandparents property up north) or as a long term storage supplement. We do definitely have lots of other foods in our rotating stock.

I'm going to go ahead and get the sampler.

It seems though, from looking at one of their other emergence survival kits, that all of these require some preparation, meaning adding water. So they aren't MRE's. I'm curious how much water you would then need in addition to drinking water. That could be a rather huge supply.

That's why they may have a place in rotating stock, in supplementary rations, in caching in outlying locations, to reduce carrying fresh food all the time. I can also relate to the difference between feeding a single man who could put off a meal until later compared to a hungry household with kids.

kids are a big deal here, yah.

For water, we have really good supplies- in fact, our most likely natural disaster scenarios involve too much. We have 2 propane camp stoves, a wood burning stove, billy cans, and for the propane stoves usually 10-20 gallons of propane. (I'll not run the forge during an emergency, I guess) We aso have the regular camp bottles, 4 or more at all times and a filler attachment to refill them from a 5 gallon tank.

So with boiling, filters, and iodine, we should be set on water purification. andour supply includes year round creeks- one of which thankfully comes from berryessa and doesn't run through the entire central valley ag land.

What's the reason for prohibiting 'deal spotting'? (Not trying to be argumentative, just curious ).

There are dealers here who pay a premium to advertise on this site. Costco is not one of them. If everyone posted a deal or bargain they came across this site would be inundated with them.

I find beans and rice are just a plenty full and could keep you going just as long if not longer. but thats quite the kit for sure.

Thanks for the reply. Now I understand.
