Cougar attack on one of my favorite hikes !

It's a good thing Snicker wasn't there - you'd have to fill out a destroyed cougar tag!!!

That's scary.

Animal attacks (mostly coyotes) are what I worry about most when I hike with Skippy.

Do you remember years ago that lady that killed the cougar in WA, with some long tweezers. She had to get like 400 stitches? I have tried finding the article, but have had no luck. She poked it through the eye into the brain.

Hello,

Wow! Thats a crazy story. Makes me glad to have my 150lbs American Bulldog at my side when I go hiking. Who knows, if he didnt have the dog it could have been him. Did a quick search, 14 cougar attacks in California since 1980. 5 Fatal cougar attacks in the last 100 years in Ca.

Have a good one,

Chris

I've often wondered about you wandering about in cougar country with only a psk knife. You've got more parts than I have.

Sure, the cougars in Ontario can be just as scary, but they're usually drunk and pretty well out of it by midnight. :D

Prey on the predator..... ;-)

Saw that on the news and thought of ya Pit, I hiked in Gowlland Tod on your recommendation a couple of years ago when I was over on the island.

Pretty wild the cougar stuck around long enough for the guy to get a picture, must be something going on there.

Awesome looking dog though.

If we had any sense in Canada it would have been a .357 coming out instead of a cell phone!

The guncontrol lobby has been clever at downplaying the cougar population when in fact this country is full of these big cats with more coming as the deer population explodes.

Enough to keep a guy doing a 360 scan now and then. Your positive and negative are your dogs. Best warning system around, but a cat would go for one of them before an adult male.

I read this really fast and thought you were saying basically, "if you don't have dogs, take your house cat." :D

I've heard about a lot of mountain lion attacks over the oast few months, used too you rarely heard about them at least I didn't know they are happening more and more often some people with knowledge on these big cats need to get out in the woods and find out whats causing these big cats to start attacking more people, I'm guessing It's just a population increase, either way all you guys who go in the woods stay safe, watch your six and carry a big gun...Or a spyderco Caly 3.5 they are pretty good cougar killers .

I've come across a Florida panther in the woods twice. One second I'm working, next thing you know I look up and there it is. I was armed, but it was still one of the most unsettling things I've ever experienced. Think it was worse once it disappeared into the brush and I didn't know where it was anymore. I remember being shocked at its size (way bigger than they look in photos/on paper) and the fact that it moved so quietly. Really made me pay more attention to my situational awareness. That thing would have had the drop on me if it had wanted.
