Flix, I'm almost certain that the claw you found is a bear claw. See how the bottom is concave all the way to the tip? Now compare to this image.

Officially, we don't have them in Oklahoma either. Whatever people see around here can't be that.

BUT the hunting regs say you can't shoot them. Go figure.
 
Joel - Thanks. After looking at the picture you linked to, I think you're right. I had originally rejected bear because their claws don't retract and the tips get warn from ground contact. The claw I found is very sharp right to the tip, so based on that and the size, I was left with mountain lion.

Munky, it was not around Colville but I am not at liberty to disclose precisely where I was. I was a guest at a friend's "secret deer hunting spot" so I need to respect that.

Oh no problem, it just looks an awful lot like a place I go up that way so I was curious. Good luck this coming weekend, hopefully you run into more deer and less cougar sign.
 
I have expected a few photos from the inside of a bar of hot older ladies trying to get them some young strange. lol
