Although Cougars and Bears are in greater numbers further up the Island, we do still get them round here and the area I was in today is one of the main sighting spots.

Perfect spot for the dogs to have a drink and splash around before we start the climb....

Looks like someone doesn't want people using this trail....tough cos that's where I'm going !

It looked like there had been no trail maintenance done for quite some time, this was little more than a deer trail.

I'd hate to bring a knife to a bear fight but if it happens then I'd like to have one of my larger knives with me such as this M6 !

nice scenery!
what's your impression of the M6?
I keep looking at that and the SAR5 trying to decide which one looks more useful.

Cool pics. I had the M6 for a time and if I had to do me some killing, that's a good choice. Awesome neutral balance. I watched a documentary on Vancouver Island and for having something like 1 percent of the cougars in North America they make up for a good number of attacks. The theory is that the encroaching population coupled with not enough small game like the mainland, bunnies I think, leads juveniles and sick cougars to attack pets, kids, and even Pitdog size adults.

As with all Busse-kin knives the M6 is as tough as hell but I think I'd go with the SAR5 based on design, I've never held a SAR 5 though !

Thanks. I'll hold out until some time I can either afford to experiment or find a SAR5 I can handle then.

I passed on the M6 because it's an in between knife. It's good for stabby good times but for chopping or bushcraft it kinda sucks. If it were thinner stock it might have been a winner. Can baton like hell though.

good to know -- that's kind of how I feel about the Boss Jack - which is why i'm looking for something different. :)

That is a cracking view indeed!!
Not seen a clear sky this way for over a week :(

Did you actually see any cougar sign or that of it's prey?

Just realised you meant did I see any today ! No I didn't see anything today but the pic I posted is a carcass I once found and I have also found scat.

Good post. Thanks for sharing. So the bucks have lots the antlers there.Just wondering.

Great shots and that's quite a view you have access to. Very green in this AZ desert rat's eyes.
