Could someone wave my Mini Griptilian for me?

Moderators- I'm not sure if this should go in a for sale post or not, you can move it if you feel the need.

I have a Benchmade Mini Grip with the oval hole opening, and would like to have it waved. I've carried it for a week with the poor man's zip tie, and really like it.

The blade would be easy to be waved, if the person has the right tools. I do not...sadly.

Anyone here care to do it for me? STR maybe?

It's this knife:

I think it could be cut straight towards the oval at about halfway through the butterfly's wings. Once rounded out a bit the oval hole could still be used as a wave or as a one handed opening system.

Please let me know, thanks!

I did a little modification in MS paint if you dont mind.

Not really sure what to think....eh... I say keep your griptilian the way it is.

It'd be a violation of emerson's patent for anyone to do it for you for fee. But STR on these forums has Emerson's permission to perform wave mods, you should ask him. Otherwise, this doesn't seem like a problem that a few minutes with a dremel wouldn't cure :)

You can Dremel it, but it won't look all that good. The cut will not come out very clean. It looks like a wave can be put in without cutting into the hole. I highly recommend STR. I have done a lot of work from him and he will do a top notch professional job. He is also authorized by Emerson as previously stated. His prices are fair also, but you have to discuss that with him.

I think it would be better doing the procedure without ruining the hole. In my opinion, too much unnecessary metal was removed from the pic above.

Exactly. I want just a corner of the blade cut out, not as much as seen in either picture, but both get the idea.

Emerson really has a patent on putting a hook into a piece of metal? Wow.

I've some hand metal work before, and I think I can do this, I just don't want to risk my new Mini Grip just yet.

Something like this, though a bit cleaner. (5 min MS paint job)

T I got your email and replied to your question. Thanks to all that recommended me also..

I normally do not recommend cutting into the opening hole but in the case of this knife I don't see any other way to do the Wave mod. So long as you don't hold me responsible if the blade breaks in the future I'll do it for you. It also bothers me to have to cut into where the butterfly emblem is located. If you like I can flat grind that section to clean up the look of the blade for you. Your call there.

Thanks

STR

I planned on beadblasting the blade once I got it back, to keep everything uniform and to remove both the Butterfly and Mel Pardue logo's.

I haven't decided if I want to go through with it yet. I've got your email saved and I'll let know if I decide to do it. Thanks.
