thanks again, i made this out of 2x18x .25 1095.

i just cut it out with a hacksaw and did the rest of the work with a little bench grinder and a 4x36 sander. it was almost all done with a linear grind (tang to tip) and the blade has no sharp angles or lines. it all just flows with a nice distal taper.

its hidden tang but the tang was left at full thickness and is about an inch wide at the guard. i made the grip out of a cut down hicory adz handle with slight shaping and sanding, and pinned it with finishing nails and black "construction epoxy". it fits my big hands well.

the bow in the blade was done with "controlled" warping, it took a lot of trys to get it streight. the heat treat was done with a pine campfire and olive oil.

i got it nice and sharp with 400 and 1200 grit sand paper, it is just slightly blade heavy and cuts and chops better than anything i have made yet. its rough but i didnt feel like it was necisary to make a working tool but so pretty.

I like the shape of it. From what I understand with high carbon steel the more polished you get the finish the better resistance to rust it will withstand. Either way if you take care of it, I guess it doesn't matter really.

I'm curious though what was your reason for putting the hole in the blade at that spot?
