Could the ASH-1 be the next SFNO?

One aspect of the ASH1 that I really like is its blade width. Its blade width makes up for its thickness. All of the ones I own, four in total thus far, have 0.220-inch blade thicknesses.

The G-10 handle layers are like a topographic map. Looking at my pair of Pumpkin ASH1s, you can see that the handle thickness, at the handle fasteners versus between them, is different.

Man Lunde....you've got some sweeties there. I'm hoping I get a black and tan G-Rex in the mail today.

I don't know if it is the next SFNO but it does seem to have the crazies around it. There is one SE ASH-1 for sale now for $750 and there just may be someone that buys it. I’m not sure of the difference between that knife and the one that will be released for about $350 in the near future. Maybe the seller does, maybe I’ll ask that in his thread or do you all think that would be chatting?

There's been a couple in the 700+ range ... $350 is going to be sweet !!! I'll take 10!! :D

I guess I have to be the heretic here. I HAD a ASH-1 SE, and wasn't that taken with it, so I traded it. The shape and lines just didn't do much for me. The blade seems too wide to my eye, and the rear horn/talon hole doesn't look right on this size blade, like it does on the larger SHSH or SHBM.

I suppose I'll be a good little Hog, and get another when it hits the trough. Maybe different scales (just not too fat)will change my opinion.

And, as a side note, I think the prices on the resale market are just crazy lately. (banned smiley)

I would have to say yes, and no. Yes to some, however many prices I have noticed are either at original sale or slightly over.

The guy probably just received the thing mere days ago and now trying to make a quick buck. Somehow it just bothers me when I see folks do that. These guys obviously never intended to keep, collect, or use it in the first place. I could be wrong but I don't think so.

I just got my ASH SE and it is so sweet! I agree with Randucci that the SFNO, being first in the new production protocol caught people off guard and it wasn't until they were being delivered, traded and used that a ton of new people came looking for them (SFNO's).

One thing I agree with is it (the ASH) will be a classic (as if it isn't already from its initial release) and will draw yet more good people into the madness. People for the most part know to order or regret it.

NO REGRETS!

Ban,

I know what you mean, as someone who actually uses his tools, I've had to pass on several great blades, due to the secondary market "mark up".

I agree with the standard slabs feeling just about right too Ban. I have gone with mags whenever possible but this feels really nice. The handle may not be thick but the handle shape is outstanding.

Good question.

Like Lunde, I already have quite a little collection of ASH-1s started up ... and I will buy more when the Boss puts 'em up.

But the SFNO. I've only got a few ... and it's been he** getting them ... but they are VERY addictive. It's the knife I have in my bedroom -- you know, just in case things get dangerous!

And there will be more SFNOs in my future. :)

For the most part the mags intially feels alot more comfy and looks cool because of the ovaloid shape. However, when swinging or chopping I prefer the standard grips because I can hold onto better. It really depends on the persons hand size and gripping technique. I tend to lock down with my ring finger and pinkie while keeping the rest loose during chopping. This essentially allows the knife to chop like a longer knife because the fulcrum point is further back. Everyone is different but I definately prefer the standard slabs on the ASH1 and the fusion handles.

I've got a custom ASH1 (like the second one Lunde has pictured) and while it is a beautiful knife, I just don't think it tops the SFNO. Honestly, the only thing I think that Busse could do to top the SFNO would be to re-release the SHSH with all the trimmings of the recent offerings (handle choices, blade coatings, etc.).

I hope the offerings on the ASH-1 ordered from Busse have similar handle configurations as the SE, I'm really partial to this shape and texture as opposed to the fatter, smoother custom shop slabs. The three SE's that have been up for sale recently have definately hit a high price point right out of the box.

The SE has standard handles, made out of G-10. Canvas Micarta should also be available. I am not sure whether there will be Standard and Magnum handles, but the Magnum ones probably won't be as thick as the hand-shaped ones that have been coming out lately. Just a guess.

The price point for the standard ASH1 offerings should be comparable to the Blade 2007 price, meaning $367 or thereabouts. The SE has DC finish and G-10 handles, both of which are generally extras that incur a surcharge. So, it may be even less!

One wish that I have, which not only applies to the ASH1 but to all of their offerings, is to have Satin finish be an option. For the past few offerings, the only way to get a Satin finish is to order an LE.

I had one as well. Felt decent and I loved the blade lines (still do). The handle didn't do much for me. Too small. Landed a BloodBath version with the FAT Black & Tan G-10 handles. Hands down, one of the best feeling blades I have eveer owned. The handles mixed with the thinner blade of the ASH-1 fits perfect. Compared the custom to the SE and I just didn't see keeping the SE. Traded mine for another Custom Busse (BATAC).

I am hoping to snag another fat handled one, or hope the LE or HOG versions with the regular offering will fill my hand better than the SE did.

How much was the SE at Blade?

Edit: $367

I am with the consensus above - I have tried for a couple of 'ganzas to get an ASH-1 - no joy. No regrets regarding the 'ganzas, and I won't pay someone's speculative pricing at double retail upon delivery... The SE is not that 'special' to me... :)

I'll be patient, and get mine direct from Busse when the trough opens up.

I believe the ASH-1 will generate a TON of new piglets - and I'm very excited about the opportunity to get them direct. I hope Double Cut is offered as an option. As well as MAG handles...
