Could the Basic-7 be the perfect mid-size Busse?

Res-C old-school style handle. Comfy, good chopping grip, ample size.

6" of blade edge. Decent height. Not the BEST chopper, but can handle it.

Balance point is at the forward edge of the front talon hole.

I just love this thing. I just got it. (No pix - sorry.) It's ugly as sin. Stripped and partially sanded. The blade had been sharpened multiple times. It took me about 40 min to steel out teh minor dings, re-convex the convex side of the Asym. edge and then get the straight-grind side poppin-sharp with the Edge-Pro.

What a dream. Much better than my NIB one I sold last month. This one BEGS to be used. No fear of first-use at all. (I had a full set. Then sold them b/c they would never be more than safe queens. Freed up some cash for other blades.)

I'll have to go downstairs later and compare it to my SR Camp Tramp. I'm convinced that the CT is the ultimate camp knife but this may supplant it. MINFI and all. Probably less fwd weight, but I think it might work anyhoo. May have to do some light chopping with it tomorrow to test it out. Maybe head-to-head. :)

Hey - come to think of it, I spent less on the B7 than I did on my user Camp Tramp. ROTFL!!!! SCORE!

Wow this is a good day. I haven't been right since I lost the Seven. I'd love another beater 9 too. Heck, maybe a 5. ROTFL!!! Here I go again!!!!:foot:

Quite possibly. The basic 7 owns, though it could stand to have a slightly taller blade, the res-c handles are my favorite.

They should bring back the basics, but with the updated res c handles and true infi. They'd be a huge hit.

Dennis , did'nt you just sell a basic , complete set ????????? ,,,,,,,, and now your on your way to aquirre them back ? Hope you pay less than what you sold em for,,,,,,lol

Yes...so far.

Make it true INFI and yes, definitely.

Bring back the Basics in Resiprene-C and true INFI?

Yes, PLEASE! :D :D :D

Been saying that myself! Jerry really needs to bring back the basics, or at least ANYTHING with Res-C and INFI.

I wouldn't get rid of my B9 for anything.

it's the perfect middle of the road 7".

When I had one, there was no major complains on any performance, but at the same time - there were no raves to be had. It was slightly forward balanced, but not much, it had a nice grip, but nothing you could beat on, it wasn't heavy, but wasn't light.

it was +/-0.002 in all categories.

now, the basic 9 - THAT was a perfect 9" small chopper. that thing was heavy forward balance, solid but slim grip for control, thick for prying and weight but not ridiculous. I loved it in every regard.

i agree. although i thought it was pretty light for its size. i ended up selling mine pretty quickly and sticking with the HR.

Hi,

This is my first post on this forum. I was actually thinking about starting a similar topic myself but Dennis in MA beat me. :)

I acquired my Basic 7 a couple of years back (after waiting for one to come up for sale for quite a while) and it's been one of my favorites since. I love its shape, size, weight, balance, ergonomics, ... (the list goes on). So, to answer the question Dennis in MA asked: YES the Basic 7 is the perfect mid size Busse IMO. There is no question that if Busse Combat brought the Basics back with INFI blades and the updated Resiprene handles I'd buy a couple - one user and one safe queen.

I think you're going to be surprised with how well it chops. I think they should make asymmetrical edge an option.

I don't have a Basic-7 but if it is anything like the Camp Tramp, and I'm sure that it is, then it is definitely a winner.

Dennis,

I could not agree more with you about the Basic 7 – for me the grip comfort, balance and size makes it one of if not my all-time favorite Busse! I’m a big fan of the Basics, even the B3 is a handy knife. The B5 has the same smaller handle of the B3 while having the extra blade length that I prefer. As has been said, the B9 has the extra length and weight to make it a better chopper, but still not too heavy (about 2/3 the weight of an SHBM if I remember correctly). If I had to pick just one though, it would likely be the B7.

Regarding bring back the Basics in INFI, I brought this up years ago not long after the original Basics had been discontinued and was told it would not happen :grumpy:, so I acquired a full set of them and some spares too. I still feel if the Basic series would be made in INFI without any design changes (including keeping the smaller choils), even with the added cost of using INFI (vs. the original modified INFI), I think they would be a big hit!

Yes, Ronnie. I did just dump a FULL SET. But they were mint condition. I couldn't use them. I can't bring myself to use long-discontinued, unused Busse blades.

Yes, I'm a moron. LOL Thankfully, THIS time, I paid a good price for the B7. It is well used and needed some edge work, but it didn't matter. That's not that hard at all to do.

To get back a user B9 would be great too. The B5 was a sweet knife (my sharpest Busse yet) but there are other smaller users I'd use first.

I'd agree I wish it had a SH-height blade on this, but I'm not sure it needs it.

Did'nt mean anything detrimental,,,,,,,,,noticed your thread in the exchange a while back,,,,,,, just calling attention to the odd ways INFI flows
