Just seen this on a show last night. The ultimate forge would have to be the Electric Arc Furnace.

115 MILLION watts of power melting several hundred tons of scrap into industrial steel.

The guy on the show said his plant generates a power bill $2.5M per month!

The entire segment on tv was awesome!

Any idea what they would charge to make a little steel for me, I need maybe one or two pounds? But I do want it to be nice, no junk.

Happened across that show last night, completely by accident. Nearly crapped my pants watching them drop in all the scrap and seeing the furnace belch those mountains of flame and molten metal. Absolutely awesome.

Gotta be pretty terrible for foging temps though. Who wants to put a piece of steel in there and have it dripping when you pull it out? ;)

What was the name, "What a tool" or "Thats a tool" or something? I sat there with my mouth open like thats f'n BAD ASS! Showing the electricity arc between the conductors and then all that smoke and molten metal come flying out!

The other tools on that show were impressive as well. That big steam hammer at the Alcoa aluminum mill was pretty cool. 16 tons of smashing power. The operator said you could feel the vibrations all the way out into the parking lot :)

Set some money aside for some heavy duty ear-pro. When the power's on and the electricity is arcing through the steel, you could go deaf from the sound.
