Could this ever happen to a BKT?

Threat...

I have two that I love and stand by...

MMHW and the cheaper, less use specific Rifleman Hawk from Cold Steel.

No, BKT doesn't make an axe:p. Yet.

Its funny, Ethan and I were talking about this, this weekend. I don't take an axe or hatchet with me into the woods, unless I'm at a Gathering. When we gather, I usually have wood trucked in, and a splitting stations setup.

I prefer a big knife or machete, myself. A 9" blade is alot more forgiving than a 4" axe head when the jelly arms and fatigue set in. I have alot more chance of a pisspoor knife strike landing on target, than a smaller axe head.

That said, I do think that an axe is the way to go in areas not East Tennessee. But here, in the rainforest I live in, a machete does just fine.

That's the second one of those I have seen broken, ever. The other one had been broken by throwing it.

The Fiskars and Gerber look the same because one bought out the other. Some of the Gerbers said "Made in Finland" like the Fiskars, others didn't.

I most definitely did not throw this axe. Although I take responsibility for hitting the handle on the wood by mistake. I chalked it up to the bad hit and very cold weather.

I'm still working on the pictures of the inside of the handle for Bladelite.

The title of this thread is a little thing I worked out with a mod. I would on the other hand like to see a BKT axe someday!

Those look like some neat tools. I can't wait for the 2.

Is that a 9 in the pic? I think that will be my next purchase!

I used to have a Gerber Backpaxe that I bought specifically because I was worried about overstrikes in cold weather. I figured if my hand covered the handle I would be much more careful...:D

As it turned out though, it had so little power in the swing I ended up getting one just like you have/had and loved it. Sold it later since I don't really carry an axe... :p Stinks that it broke, regardless.

Some old timey books say that you have to be careful w/ porcupines chewing up wooden axe handles trying to get at the salt from your sweat on them, so I guess nothing is perfect at everything. Sometimes you have to balance out the benefits of something vs. it's limited life. I don't think anyone would really want an axe head welded onto a piece of pipe for a handle, because they would have to carry and use the thing forever, just so they could have an unbreakable handle. It wouldn't necessarily be worth the sacrifice.
