Could use a bit of advice with bass, in particular bait. Usual go-to's havent worked.

Yea, same luck here with trout, crappie, salmon. Just been eyeing them for a more lightweight "non-smelly" tackle for backcountry rivers, streams, and lake fishing. Noticed they have a trout and bass spinner kit now too.

Yeah the Bass around here seem to like plugs and baited lures, rather than spinners. I'd suggest getting lures that resemble a common "baitfish" for your area. If Crayfish are common to your area, there are plugs that resemble them - sometimes with scents - as well.

When fishing vegetation from bank , I have caught some really big bass with a Texas rigged , weightless worm. My favorite is a riverside Top Gun , but they are no longer made. The Yum Swurm is pretty close . I use a heavy hook for added casting weight . It will come through the slimiest slop even that green snotty moss and duck weed .

I fish from shore sometimes as well, the first thing I do when I get there is look and see what's around. if there are baitfish such as shad, alewives, bluegill etc.. if there are I will usually throw a crank bait that dives deeper that the water I am fishing. if you are fishing around logs a crank bait should work if it doesn't I would start throwing plastics such as weightless texas rigged craws or wacky rigged senkos. if your fishing around weeds you could also throw texas rigged worms or craws a weedless wacky rigged senko would also work well . if the weeds go above the water I will throw hollow bodied frogs, this is my favorite bass fishing technique. a horny toad could also work just throw it and run it over the weeds. I tend to catch a lot of bass using these over weeds. a jig may be a good idea too, you can either rip it through the weeds or on the edge of it. I tend to use a hack attack jig with a rage tail craw trailer around weed beds. these are just a few options that I would use. there are also many other variables that I would consider such as wind, temp, water temp, etc.. make sure you use heavy line when in the weeds I use 30LB braid in the weeds and 65Lb braid for frogging. it may sound excessive but my tournament partner learned the hard way.

Thank you guys for the advice :-). Hooked a huge lmb yesterday, got it to the surface, and then....pew....WHAM...hook came loose and the weights popped into the pier just a foot away. Lol..my crumby luck.

Top water at first light using frog baits near vegetation

OR

Use black top water lures all night.

One of these always works for me when it seems all else has failed.

I have a method that works for me on those hot Alabama mid-summer days when the bass can be seen lolling around at the surface over cover in super-clear water and nothing seems to be able to get them to strike. I stumbled upon this quite by accident.

Using a fairly light-weight fly rod rig, I keep the boat well away from the bass and cast a number eight popping bug ( anything larger will spook it) a distance from the bass that in normal conditions would be ridiculous, fifteen yards or so. And I let it sit, not moving it or twitching it at all, and wait. Many times, the bass will eventually turn as if he is in slow motion and leisurely cruise over to it and suck it in. This has worked for me many times.
