Couldn’t decide between Emerson cqc7 and southern grind bad monkey so I got both. One has to go back. Need help to decide on my first “quality” knife.

I saw that, I may have to put it on my list even though I hate Ernie’s son in law because I’m in love with his daughter!

My next one will be the cqc 17. My buddy has it and it’s an awesome little knife.

If you were asking for my opinion, I would say that I do not like either one.

In other advice, I would say keep them both, recognizing that, depending on your domestic situation, you might be facing a significant delay in starting a family . . .

It's funny and pretty cool how some of this thread has turned into a love-for-Emerson ring. 😆 In all truth though, Emerson deserves the love as he has some of the most practical and effective designs out there. My only gripe and wish is the company would do a 90 degree turn and offer their models in titanium and micarta combos (much like the customs). Maybe even throw in and play with some different grinds, thumbholes (spydieholes), and bearings too. I'd have zero problem throwing down extra $$$ to acquire some of those.

Agreed, the flippers come on bearings and they’re effin awesome.

I’d love some Emerson frame locks for sure!

Candidly speaking, if you're relying on a liner-lock folding knife for self defense, multiple poor choices will have been made for you to have arrived at that point in time. Also, I would not have purchased either of these knives, so I can't really tell you which one you should keep. If I needed something to fill the roles you mention, I'd have purchased a Cold Steel (pick a model), as S35Vn is a better steel (in my opinion), than both of the steels mentioned here. I'd also feel more reassured by the Triad lock in the event I had to shank someone, over a liner lock anything. Just my take.
Yes as I said in a previous comment my recon 1 with the snaggletooth is still my favorite knife over both of these and it was less than 1/2 the price haha
