Council Tool Woodcraft Pack Axe Review

Council isn't going to be able to counter argue 'user abuse' when they see those pictures. And because it's a factory edge they won't be able to accuse you of making it too acute (thin) either. Good luck!

Yikes! If one of my axes did that I'd botch up an attempt to give it a proper temper:p. How did that pass quality control is what I'd like to know.

every axe manufacturer has one slip through the gate every once in a while. shitty heat treat. they'll replace it.

i've seen the same thing from the swedish axe forges, too.

I emailed council tool the next day and was responded too that night.
They suggested the heat treat was inadequate.
They want the axe back ASAP to replace it.
Awesome customer service so far.
Hopefully the next one will not be as fragile.

Just an update on the pack axe...
I cleaned up the edge with a file and then a stone #1000. Took a bit to get back far enough past the rolled section.
Council tool suggested the edge may not have taken the heat treat as well?
Not sure
It’s about a 26-27 degree instead of the factory 25
Took it out for testing and it did do much better.
Council tool sent me another brand new pack axe to replace the current one.
I can say their customer service is beyond anything I’ve ever dealt with. Above all expectations.
They were adamant about getting a new axe in my hands, it arrived on Valentine’s Day
Lol
