Counterfeit 710 Magnacut LE

Man, the fakers are getting really good at this. :(
Ya man. That one is super close. Just missing the numbering on the blade, the color on the pivot, and I’m sure the omega spring is wrong. But getting a blade for half price is a big red flag.

Man, imagine the folks out there walking around with a fake and they don't even know it, and may never know unless they try to send it in for service or something, because they aren't dialed into resources like Bladeforums or other online sources of this kind of info. I know there's a general concept we knife guys have that someone who spends money on a "nice" knife must clearly be a knife guy who's plugged into our world here, but you'd be surprised at how many folks spend money on Benchmades and never so much as even google them. Hell, especially with Benchmades, as they are sold everywhere.

You read my mind. I was just thinking that if someone got this as a gift or just wanted a “one time” nice knife to have, they wouldn’t notice until sending for service.

This should be posted on the top of ebays home page ; “caveat emptor” is Latin for “let the buyer beware.”

Wonder which company is doing the countfeiting. And i wonder if these same companies have an above-the-board business, as well..

Most of the above-board companies we know would be able to produce “correct” fakes with little to no effort. I’m not saying they aren’t, but the quality a lot of the *clones* achieve is incredible. Clones being different from fakes as they just copy the design and don’t claim to be real.

Benchmades aren’t cloned as often because the fakers are targeting non-knife people who have some sort of brand awareness.

Most of the clones are of high-end, famous customs, semi-customs, and in particular, Shiros, that “knife people” want.

No. In general fake companies make fakes. they sometimes advance to legitimate (as kevin john did with the venom line and the ckf oem work) but established "real" factories have far too much to lose to waste it making fakes. The age old misconception of legit companies running things "after hours" is mostly a wives tale. Now, thats not to say they dont make and sell unbranded PARTS to company "partners" that then make fakes (laser engravers are cheap in the scheme of things!)
