Has anybody heard of a counterfeit Rat 1? Would anybody even bother to do that? I mean it's not a very expensive knife in the first place and it is made in Taiwan anyway.
The reason I ask is because I bought one off of ebay for less then half of what it cost through amazon, bladehq, knifeworks, etc. It came from Hong Kong. When I received it the box looked a little shabby. No big deal as after all it came from Hong Kong. There was Chinese writing on one end of the box along with a number. The other end has "Ontario/Rat Model 1 Folding Knife"
I got the knife out, looked it over and it looked as it was advertised, new. BUT it was a little stiff to open. Again no big deal as you can adjust the pivot screw to fix that. The blade was centered fine. All the lettering and logo on the blade looked just as it's suppose to BUT I still thought something was amiss. It just didn't feel right. Then I took it apart as I intended to make a set of handle scales for it. The fit & finish of the screws, liners & standoffs isn't very good. It seems shoddy and of poor quality. I had a heck of a time getting it back together so everything would fit right. Also it didn't have the Teflon washers. It had the bronze ( I assume) ones only. That's the reason I'm writing this post and asking the question. Could I just have gotten a bad one from the factory that makes them all? or is this a cheap(er) clone?
The good news is I'm not out a lot of money if it's only good for digging weeds. Bad news is I'll have to buy one from one of the company's I mentioned.
Anybody else have this problem?
