Counterfeit ZT 0562Ti's?

There are two types of people: those who will lecture you and hope that misfortune befell you, and those who will provide helpful information. This post is meant for the latter group.

OK, down to business. I bought, on another site, a ZT 0562Ti, for a rather good price; the seller accepted my first offer, which really surprised me, and now it's led me to wonder a little bit: are there clones of the ZT 0562Ti? My research has not uncovered any, so I feel pretty good about the sale, but perhaps I am overlooking some site. If I get an ambiguous answer here, I figure that once I get the knife, I can send it to Kai to authenticate.

I have yet to hear of any. Don’t they usually follow along after they have been out a bit? This one is barely on the streets yet. I dunno, maybe there are clone Ti’s from way back when folks were trying to steal sales from the CF version.

Or can you go to ZT’s website and look up the vendor since most manufacturers list authorized dealers on their website?
 
Got pics of the knife? That'd help a bit with getting accurate feedback.
 
Thanks. I just ordered the knife, so I don't have pictures to share, yet. That was a great idea, though, to look up the dealer. I used the shipping city to find dealers, using Kai's website, and there's only one in that area. Kai gives the phone number, so I can just call and see if they are the ones who are shipping me the knife. Thanks for that idea!

Starting your post with an insult is great but whatever....

I doubt there are any counterfeits out in the wild yet. That said, buying from a reliable source is the only way to reduce the risk of getting a fake to near zero.

How cheap did you get it for? The advertised price on the internet is very inflated for ZT. Most local knife shops will shave a good $40-$70 off the MAP you see on BHQ and the like.

That within the range of difference my local shop charges vs Minimum Advertised Price on the internet. They got the 0452 and 0462 in the $180s and I know I paid like $70 under MAP for the 0850 when it came out.

MAP is kinda crazy on ZT and Benchmade compared to what you can get it for at the local shop in my area.

Or, he could be impatient and impulsive like me and sell knives for firesale prices because they want to hurry up and order a new one :D
 
To the mod ( knarfeng knarfeng ) and the other person that criticized my criticism: I've asked similar questions before about other knife models, and the first people to answer are the ones who loooove to criticize and tell you that you should have bought it at BHQ...and "was it worth it"? They're not trying to be helpful; they're just using schadenfreude and lecturing to feel better about themselves. Being more experienced now, and not being in the mood for that, I decided to head it off at the pass. The purpose of the post wasn't to whine; that bit was just meant to exclude the trolls.

Interesting. I think that BHQ and KnifeCenter and similar places aren't allowed to sell Spyderco and ZT for less than MAP, though oddly, one big retailer, is selling the 0562Ti for $260. I figured that the places that sell on auction sites can sell for less either because they're selling clones or because they're selling the real deal but without revealing who they are, so the manufacturers can't cut them off.

I think the ebay sellers price at MAP the first few rounds because most knife etailers don't take Paypal. I bet most of them sell just fine, if not they go to auction.

Are we allowed to use that word that starts with e and ends with y? :-)

I figured those prices on that site were for suckers. Why would you pay full retail on an auction site from someone that you don't know at all? Your theory about PayPal is interesting. Don't most people have credit cards? And I didn't realize that the big retailers don't take PayPal.
 
Being as they were just released, I highly doubt there are clones out yet. I'd be looking to make sure the serial numbers on box and blade match and that it comes with all the normal ZT packaging.
 
Highly doubt that there are clones yet. That said, I’m quite sure that no ZT dealers (internet or otherwise) are supposed to sell below MAP. They are risking their relationship with ZT by doing it. So - I wouldn’t mention any names here.

They have been making clones of the 0562 in full titanium for long before KAI ever decided ti make an official version.

I checked the big sites and didn't see them, and no one else here knows of any, so if you're sure, feel free to PM me the URL where you saw them.
 
Put on work gloves, and tap the spine of the knife on something. You will find out quickly if it is real.
