i`m going to do some $eriou$ ordering of knives in about 2 months,i`m kind of paranoid about counterfit product ,is it prevalent in the knife world? i`m staying away from ebay and the like as a result of, "learning experiences"(rip off`s), not knife related though.
thank you`s in advance

There are counterfeits of certain famous knife models (Emerson CQC-7 and Commander, for example), but more often they just involve slapping a logo for some major brand on a random knife that doesn't resemble, or only very vaguely resembles, anything in the company's actual lineup. As such, they're generally very easy to spot. As long as you buy from reputable dealers (e.g., those who have "Dealer" memberships here on BladeForums) and look out for obvious warning signs (e.g., "Benchmades" or "Striders" shipping from mainland China or Hong Kong or being sold for prices that are waaaay too good to be true) you should be fine.

Post in the Good Bad and Ugly forum section for Canadian dealer recommendations. In my experience, no 'real' dealer would risk their reputation by selling counterfeit products.

The only counterfits I've seen have been bought from the auction site or from China. I've not seen any complaints about counterfits bought from regular dealers.

I've bought plenty of knives from the 'bay and so long as you don't buy from anyone in China or Hong Kong you're usually safe from counterfeits. It also helps to know what the knife you want actually looks like first.
