I've been to Country Knives in Pennsylvania three times. The first time I was very impressed with their selection and they were great folks to talk to, but everything in the store, which is attached to their home, sold for full list price. I bought anyway because they were really good to work with, because they had a retail store that I could walk into, and because they had the items in stock.

However, I've been back twice, both times during normal business hours on Saturday, and found the store closed. The first time was a couple of weeks before Christmas when I would have thought they'd be open to catch the Christmas shoppers. However, when I got there, there was a note on the door that said they had closed early due to a family event.

I probably should have learned from the experience and called ahead the next time since it is a 90 minute drive from where I live. However, I didn't, and once again showed up in the middle of the day on Saturday to find the store closed. This time there was no note. I subsequently heard there had been a death in the family, so I could understand the store being closed, but it would have been nice if there had at least been a note on the door.

In all fairness to them, their website does say

"As we are a small family-run store, there may be times when our hours will fluctuate.

Thank you for understanding."

So the bottom line is that they have a great selection of goods, but the prices are as high as you'll pay anywhere, and you'll want to call ahead to make sure they are going to be open when you are planning to be there.

I have been there before while on vacation, I too was impressed with the selection but found many knife to actually be a bit over full list price!!!! I onyl walked out with a new hat and a knife storage case...But it was still an enjoyable time...

I'm in the same boat. Their customer service is superb, their selection is superb, but it still doesn't justify their prices being over MSRP.

I go there twice a year and have know Brian for close to 10 years. He is not going to budge on the price thing and seems to be doing OK. He and the family are extremely knowledgable, and they do have some things that are very hard to find elsewhere. He also is willing to "convert" Wm Henry buttonlocks for left handed carry which is a ROYAL PITA. Also, the "markdown" on Wm. Henry on the net isn't so great so, I buy those there. Do I do most of my business there? Of course not! But it is a nice place to check out once or twice a year.

I agree, if nothgin esle its fun to go check out new knives, and like I said I dont leave empty handed, even if its just a new hat, or a knife book, lol...

when I was there 11 years ago...( was it that long ago already!!!) I had a blast...It is a very cool store..and the experience is worth a few bucks extra after all....
