Couple New FBs at the Knife Connection

FB Mafia: Hanging out in the back of a shop in GA eating Calzones. Good with knives i hear... :)

FWIW

So.... A while back, I had decided to address this "in forum" with Dale (who is an Awesome guy by the way) the result of which is as follows:

1. TKC are good people who care about retaining customers

2. I'll probably shoot myself in the foot over this little secret, but Dale will gladly sell you any knife listed sans sheath (and thus corresponding price bump). Without the BH sheath costs, knives are priced +/- $5 fair market value.

With that said, without the sheath inflation and ignoring the advertised "pricing", you can get some pretty awesome knives at a fair cost from Dale & co. As an aside, I also had one minor product service issue with a TKC knife, and Dale & co were prompt to both respond and fix the issue.

Good peeps, just trying to make a living in a cut throat industry. Email Dale if you want a knife without a sheath and 99% of the time he will oblige!

Agreed; one of the few places on earth where eating a calzone with a toothpik / camp knife / machete is both accepted and encouraged

Both Dale and Derrick are great to deal with.
I have purchased from both.
They add up the same in the end.
The TKC sheaths are a touch nicer. Now I said a Touch nicer.

Interesting tip Will. As I have not dealed with Dale as of yet, (on account of the previous mentioned objections) I now may be regretting my earlier statements......

Thanks Will for the info on TKC and your interactions with Dale and crew. I'm glad it's worked well for you. I haven't done business with them and have only interacted a few times with Dale over PM and email so I can't speak in regards to having bought anything there.

I'm sure they're great guys, and it is a cut throat business, which leads me to wonder why they'd use questionable business practices like the crazy high "list price" and "you save" to try to make it look good. I'm thinking it's not working, based on the stock of Fiddlebacks that they have sitting there. I can only assume folks are either confused, or just plain refuse to buy because of these things.

I've shared these thoughts with Dale in the past. He has every right to charge what he wants, and market and sell how he wants. The above is just my opinion.

lol, agreed the whole pricing thing is a bit redonkulous -- maybe community feedback will eventually get the better off the situation and we'll see some adjustments over at TKC in the future

According to the comments above ..it's been brought up before
You can lead a horse to water ....

I've never really cared what retailers say is "list" or "regular" price as the only price I care about is the price I would pay... Although the list prices do seem odd considering they've never actually sold at those prices anywhere. I'd like to think most people ignore arbitrary "discounts" anyway?

In any event, Dale offers great service and for some of you (not all) out there may appreciate having the wide selection to choose from.

If TKC has a fiddleback I really want, an extra $20-30 isn't likely going to put me off... YMMV

Yeah, that was kind of my thought on it too. In my opinion, it comes across as just one of many marketing tools used by retailers.

He's got a business to run and people to pay, just like anybody else.

All things considered, the actual price you have to pay isn't much more than if you'd sharked it here and then went and bought a nice sheath.

No one pays "list" for anything. This is not unique in the knife biz, it's everywhere.
Look at musical instruments. You see guitars listing for $1,500 that sell for $800.00
The retail price is generally 40% less that list. It's been that way for a long time.
I stopped paying attention to list pricing a long time. No one is expected to pay it.
