My brother and I went to a local antique shop this afternoon and he bought me a few knives. One is a Kabar wood handled knife with a sheepsfoot blade, or what used to be a hawkbill ground into a sheepsfoot blade. The other is a Kutmaster electricians knife with spear point blade and long locking screwdriver. It also has wood handles and is in very good condition. The Kabar was in pretty rough shape, with a half stop but no snap to the blade. I put it in a bath of mineral oil for forty or so minutes, and every so often opened and closed the blades. Then i washed it with soapy water, rinsed and dried it, and used some 400 grit sandpaper on the inside liners, that were very rusty. After the mineral oil bath, it snapped open nicely, but still was not snapping closed. After scuffing the rust off of the liners, it snaps shut as nicely as it opens.
A good sharpening, and I might just have a new EDC seeing some pocket time. I'll try to post some pics soon.
ETA: I might go back and pick up the 3 camp/scout knives they have with bone handles. They are in decent shape and could be fixer-upper projects for snowy days.
