Sorry for the delay. Between work and our daughters wedding coming up in a week and a half (got fitted for the tux yesterday) I've been stretched thin.
Anyway, here's the 119 Special. The only and I mean only negative comment I have is that I wish it had come in a box instead of the bubble pack or what ever that thing is called. I like to collect the boxes plus unpackaging a knife in something that you need a knife to get into is a horrible idea. Kind of like the chicken and the egg thing.
The only other issue is that I wish the sheath was made in the USA and not Mexico but I'm going to belabor that point. It is what it is and I didn't buy the knife for the sheath. I bought it because it's a Buck and that speaks for itself.
Here's the AG 110
I should have taken a before photo of the coating that was left behind when they did the primary grind but it came off very easily with a few passes of an ultra fine sharpening rod. Tried to take a photo of the fairly coarse grind but couldn't get a decent focus.
The left side scale is a good deal lighter in color than the right which is very deep and rich. Both are attractive but the darker side just looks nicer to my eye.
There are some wear or scratch marks near the tang that have only become evident since I've been opeing and closing the blade. They might be on my regular 110 as well, just easier to see with the coated blade on this one.
Overall I'm not displeased one single bit. This is a production knife, although with somewhat custom or upgraded materials and Im not one to place custom expectations on a production knife. As with the 119 the sheath is also a product of Mexico but as with the 119 that is more a point of fact than a complaint.
As with all Buck products, I feel that both of my new Bucks display a quaility and dedication to high production standards far beyond their price point.
Thank you to everyone at Buck knives! Now I just need to figure out how to carve a Jack O'Lantern with a 119. Happy Halloween!
