Couple Of Old Jacks

Thanks for the info, Augie. (I'm terrible at recognizing different varieties of wood.)

Those are real beauties. Nice find.

Thanks, I'm thinking rosewood, the Eureka Jack is East Indian Rosewood and it's almost a dead ringer to the NYKC.

The 1902 NYKC catalog that I have usually lists cocobolo as an option, so that would be my first guess. But it could be rosewood (technically cocobolo is a rosewood - dalbergia - species, but normally rosewood means either brazilian or indian rosewood, not cocobolo). Also, it is a standard dogleg pattern; the GEC 92 is a Eureka jack.

These are the rest of the old Jacks I found last weekend, first up is a Camillus bare end Jack with nice bone, full blades, does have some pitting and a slight edge bone loss on mark side. Has 4 line tang stamps, main is straight, pen is curved, from what I've read this dates it to 1915.

Normally I'm a fan of wood scales, but the bone on this is just fabulous.

Thanks all, Lambertiana, thank you for the pattern clarification and the wood identity from the catalog.

I've got to start finding these antique stores and yard/garage sales you boys are hitting. I can't remember the last time I found anything half as pleasant as what I see in this thread and several others. Dedication, timing, and a bit of luck are certainly paying off for you gentleman. The jigging alone makes that top knife a winner, and the second is lovely as well. Excellent, excellent finds. :D
Thanks, Neal

Both nice knives but I do like the jigging on the Camillus.

The other is a New York Knife Co Jack, very similar to the GEC Eureka Jack, unfortunately the blades of this one have been poorly sharpened, still a pretty nice knife, has coin edge liners, long match strike pull. Some of the pics show a comparison to the GEC.
