I am wondering how the resale market works on Busses.

I bought my first Busse (EU-17 Magnum) in March of this year and have used it to the point where it has little coating still on the blade. The laser engraved seriel number and logo are still perfectly legible. I payed $400 USD for this pice and was wondering how much it has dropped in value because of it's used condition. Also, I payed $315 for my SFNO (with jungle camo/ green linen) and wondered how much it would drop in value once used and how much it would gain if left mint. I am trying to figure out if I should use the Busses I buy or keep them mint to retain value.

Thanks for the help. :)

It really depends on how used they are. On an older Busse, a little wear means almost nothing, on a newer Busse, it might make a difference. Although your EU-17, if kept in pretty good condition (so stop using it) will probably not lose value at all, since it's a very popular knife. (all my opinion)

Here are my 2 cents:
Mint at the least retail on a current production "maybe more if it's a more desireable combo:

Used... well it may matter how much finish is worn... but it's easier to use a blade that is already used... does away with the "I don't wanna scratch it factor"

BUT...
Price them at what it's possible someone will pay in the current market... you can always come down in price...... but you won't get away with raising the price once you have set it :D

Frankly, I would love to see some pics of your used Infi.

I have a "thing" for used blades. Too many pictures of pristine blades show up on the forums. ;)

:D :D :D

IMO, the Magnum EU-17 can’t drop too much in value, because there are so few of them.

The SFNO is less rare, and mint/near mint condition might help it retain value.

I buy Busses to use, and will have to have a rethink if I decide to consider them as investments.

Thanks. I just got to find the camera. I'm going for a hike tomorrow anyways and it would make a great opportunity to take some user pics.

What do you want?

Chopping, Batonning? Any specifics?

Feel free to surprise me. Any pic of a well used (add: busse/swamp rat) knife in its natural habitat is an instant favorite.

It's all good! :D

Don't forget you can always get a knife reconditioned.
You have to pay for it, but it could very well be worth it.

10-20% maybe. It depends on the buyer. If you have a user some poor hog has been losing sleep over, you might squeeze ull retail out of his obsession. It all depends on how bad someone wants it. I traded a mint ATC VT TAC hawk for a very, very user B( and I felt like I got the better end of the deal.

I would also like to see some user pics, go ahead and throw them up at the "Nothing but pics" thread.

Thanks everyone, I will post the pics as soon as I find the blasted camera. Any idea how much reconditioning costs?

Peter: Whatever you decide, keep in mind that this Busse mania you have should above all else be fun and satisfying.

Suppose that you keep the SFNO pristine, and in a couple of years found someone who didn't want to wait a long time for them to come around in the rotation again, and paid you $350 for it.

Now suppose that you used it extensively and in the same two years sold it for, say, $250 (although it would probably bring a little more.)

The two years of pleasure and satisfaction using the knife will have cost you an estimated $100.

Now, suppose you intend to over time build an extensive Busse collection, and you expect that you will eventually take equal or greater pleasure in having a pristine SFNO to foundle. This is a decision that only you can make.

It is very nice that the blades we crave tend to increase in value, and that is a desirable side benefit. However, if my concern over investment value ever overrides the fun and satisfaction, then I am out of here.

Well said Mike!

Ditto Mr. Hamhocks!!!

Buy them cause you like them. If they go up, cool. If not, you still have something you like.

Wow, great advice, Thank You. Unfortunately I am not sure what would satisfy me more. :D

Trust me on this. I was the "Don't use them" type and wound up with a User SHBM, now I am going to break in my FSH. Using them is sooooooo much more fun then putting them into a safe. It's kinda like some people that buy a BMW. A BMW is designed to be driven hard, but they drive it five under the speed limit. That my friend, is neglect :D My eyes are open ;)

And since it appears you are on your hike, hope it was fun
