I'm considering ordering a 110 from Petes. I like the traditional looks of the wood handles and designed a nice knife with oak handles, BG-42 blade, silver bolsters, no rivets. I remember seeing in a previous post that the no rivet option was not a good idea with wood handles. Does anybody remember this post or what the reason was. Also, does Petes use the resin impregnated wood like the regular 110s? TIA

Hi, I,m not sure how the wood is processed, but you can be sure it's top drawer. My PCKS has the cherry wood and finger grooved. I am a rivit fan.(looks good to me),but I had read someplace that the way the handles are secured that there is noooo way of ever having one come loose.

I have seven 110's from Pete's without rivets and none of them show delamination. Even if the scales did come loose, Buck would put them back, no charge.

It is a rare occurance when a scale falls off. The ones i remember are usually quite old and had been knocked around quite a bit. And yes of course we fixed them under warrantee!

THe wood used is an extremely tough, resin impregnated birchwood. It is very nice looking and resistant to the elements.

Just a data point on the rivets/no rivets.

I have a 503 I purchased just a month ago, because I felt guilty opening boxes from Buck with my Kershaw Corral Creek

. Anyway, it's done nothing but ride in my front pocket since then, but yesterday I noticed that both scales are loose, held on only by the pins.

I'll probably send it in for repairs, but I was surprised to see them come loose this quickly.

Peace,

I had that same problem with a 501. I don't think they use epoxy on them like they do on the knive from PCKS.
