Here's a couple of my favorite edc knives that i have pimped for my tastes.

I left the tanto blade stonewashed but the other blade is high polished and convexed...on both knives i have flattened the frames and finished to 600 grit.

I still luv the sebbie but in my opinion the umnum is an amazing folder.

Nice work there BigMark, I like seeing satin finished Ti on the CRK folders, I want to do the same to my Seb.....

Hey Bigmark, that looks extremely nice.

Does Satin show a lot of wear marks though?

Hi Blaze, everything shows wear marks sooner or later....satin finish is easy to bring back....even faster than firing up the beadblaster.

It's much work to get a nice satin finish but it makes a 400 dollar knife look like a thousand dollar knife...IMO.

You are right, the umnumzaan looks many times more classy now than before.

A thing I might question is sanding the whole backside where the lock is.

The decorated or unique graphic Sebenzas are satin finish as well, but the lockbar is still beadblasted.

Is there a reason they do that? I would imagine so as it certainly looks more appealing with all sanded out.

I don't know why they don't satin the lock bar but i assure you that the integrity on mine is not compromised at all.

Wow! Those look great!

How did you put the satin finish on the frames? I saw something about 600 grit. Did you use a wheel?

I only have a Dremel....

Don't use a wheel or a dremmel !!

I use a belt sander to get the surface flat and then a flat surface with sandpaper.

It's hours of work...the important thing is to get the surface flat first...titanium is hard stuff.

Every time I see a tanto Umnum, I just want to rush out and get one. They look great and yours looks even better again with the satin finish.:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

How did you do the satin finish on the standard blade? On a belt as well??

These knives are users as knives should be used....i don't find them slippery at all...not even when wet.

Are the factory satin finished knives slippery ? :)

I only have my 21, but usually satin is pretty slippery on metal grips.

Blades are a pain in the ass...i have done several and every time i say i will never do another....before you can do a hand satin or begin to polish a blade you must remove the existing finish and remove all scratches , grind marks,etc...

Its not like a custom knife where the maker knows he is going to do a hand satin or high polish....a maker will grind to a finer grit in preparation.

Stone wash, bead blast, coated blades hide alot.....S30V is like concrete to sand and takes me many hours to get a blade ready for the buffer.

All my blade work is done by hand and a buffer...i don't have the skills to take a blade to the belt except to do some badass convex edges.

I think Chris Reeve's grinds on the umnums are wicked and a awesome base to start with.

I have also done some pritty cool Striders.

It takes practice and you learn what works best...i get more of a kick pimping some quality production knives then i get out of high buck customs.

I think most folks can do it...just remember to stay away from power tools as you can damage a blade quickly.

And remember to use yur knives !! thats the most fun !!

Thanks Bigmark.

I have a small Busse that I have been playing around with putting a satin finish on by hand. It's hard work and takes ages. I don't have a buffing wheel on my grinder so I doubt I will be able to get a nice finish like your blade and that is why I have not attacked my sebbie. Even though it needs a spruce up because it has scratches all over the blade from use and sharpening.
