Wazzup with this knife? I know Bear MGC, and I know they make decent stuff. What the heck is genuine sambar stag bone(tm)? Sure don't look much like any stag I've ever seen. Is this another example of imitation stag? Jig bone that has been altered to "attempt" to look like real stag? :barf:

Whatever; this handle material looks pretty cheezy to me.

I could be wrong, but if memory serves I think "sambar" is antler from a small member of the deer family native to India???

Anybody else know for sure?

Sambar Stag refers to a particular deer from Asia, its antler makes great handle material for knives, brought usually but not always from India, I believe it is found elsewhere including Philipines, Australia and New Zealand, though I don´t know if it is the exact same deer or has the same quality antler. The Indian goverment prohibited exportation some years ago, so it is now more valuable.

Technically speaking Sambar Stag bone is valid and refers to the bone of such deer, not the antler, although it seems kind of tricky to me, since those who know about knives refer to the Sambar Stag antler simply as Sambar Stag.

I think that stuff looks so Cheesy!!! It is probably the uglies cover knife I have seen since I started reading knife mags 4 years ago. I think it is very sneaky way of advertising as well. When I first read it, I thought there is no way that is real stag. Then I looked closer and saw Genuine Sambar Stag BONE, then I thought about it, and it pissed me off.

There is a seller on the BFC that is from India. They explained the export ban is on raw or unprocessed antler, (whole antler) if it is cut up or in some way processed it can be exported.

I assume that will make it more expensive for the importers and cut them out of the money they made buying it whole and cuttng it up to sell to You and I.
