Cow Bone 110s gone

I understand what you're saying, but at the same time it's a free world...if Buck cared they could limit purchases, I guess. Yeah, it's annoying, but it's also part of our economy, for both better and for worse. :thumbdn:

It's their right to do it, I agree with that. I just won't buy anything at all from those sellers because of that and it's their loss because I buy a lot of Bucks on eBay. ;)

More than those from the web special page, the BCCI offering bug me the most. Heck, I saw knives from this years Heritage set offered on the bay before I even received mine!

I did too and it irritates me, but I don't see what can be done about it. How long will it be before we see the BCCI Paperstone 110s on the bay? That's why I will try to get more than one, in case I lose the first, want to give one..... I don't want to fall prey to the vultures. Perhaps Buck could limit the number per customer, but where would they set the limit? A web special in my understanding is a clearance and who wants to put a buying limit on a clearance item?

The reason I didn't jump on the web special cowbone was because I think the BP version has a CPM-154 blade, which might be worth paying a little more for...? Still thinkin'. I want to scrounge up the ante for the 532 that's on the specials page... :)

I just checked my BP version and it didn't have any markings of 'CPM-154' or the Bos stamp, which makes me think it is a 420HC blade. As for that 532, JN, I have a feeling that one is calling your name right now. :D

I swear that I saw one on there, but I could be wrong about that. I'll have to go and do a search for completed auctions and see if I can find it.

I just went back and ordered 10 more of the single bladed 301's so I'll have a stock to share before they are all gone.

You make a good point there. Getting the most knives out there is good for Buck, which ultimately is good for us too, IMO.

Here's the description from BPS's site:

"From the #1 name in sports cutlery comes a series of rugged knives with natural bone handles. Each knife features Ultra-sharp Edge 2X blade technology, 420HC tempered stainless steel blades, and a brown distressed leather sheath. Blade length for the 110 Folding Hunter is 3-3/4''. Made in USA.

Manufacturer model #: 110BNSBP-B."

The model number is nearly the same as the ones from the web specials page (0110BNSBP1-B).

It's very nice of you to do that. It's sad to see new collectors having to pay unreasonable prices to build up their collections. I've fallen into that group myself at times. It's nicer seeing those knives going into the hands of true collectors and users who really appreciate them, rather than see them as a way to make a ... to make money. I was going to say "make a buck" but stopped myself. :D

Well, I have to pay 8.25% tax and would have to add shipping to the recipient but that's alot better than the prices that they are offered for other places.

And it's not as much the web specials that bug me as it is the offerings exclusivly to BCCI members. I feel like Buck must go out of their way to build something special for the club members and it must be a little distressing to them seeing them show up at inflated prices on eBay before the glue holding the handles on is even dry!:thumbdn::thumbdn::thumbdn:

that's a good point on the BCCI knives. i'm not a member and thus don't think i should be able to just buy one. but that's just me. aside from having the member # or name etched on it (unless that is already done) don't see anyway to prevent that. plus i'm guessing if they are only sold to BCCI members originally it's a few BCCI members that sell em again so probably wouldnt go for any attempt to minimize that happening!

i completely agree with the comments above about the web specials being a great way for a new guy to get into collecting. the first 2/3 of Buck's i bought were off the web specials and there is no way a new guy with any other brand can aquire as many geniune models that are a bit different then run of the mill (and some very nice ones) to build up a collection as reasonably as these Bucks allow.

Yes, dave I feel with you.

I'm proud to have one of the small giveaway knives given
out at the BCCI annual meeting two years ago. And I feel
bad also when I find some of the gifts in the bay.

A lot of the BCCI knives aren't serialized or numbered. I do believe that on at least some of the offerings, a member was limited in the number that they could order. I'll have to go back and read the newsletters again to see for sure.

That's the same way as mine (from the web specials page) came. The BPS ones have the NS bolsters according to jb. I never have bought one of those, so I don't know what kind of box they come in.

Dave,

When the BP 110 bone first came out it had a brass frame. I went to the store here in CA, a 1.5 hour drive for me. I wanted one of those 110's, all they had left was the shelf display and they would not sell it to me because they had misplaced the box....... A 1.5 hour drive just to handle and hand pick the 110 bone only to get a fat zero. The display had tarnished brass and some scratch's and would have bought it if they would have let me.

Any way when I got home, placed an order on-line and got the NK frame version. It was a big deal with folks here at the time as no one had seen the NK version offered before. All the catalog photo's of the knife looked like NK and the current catalog photo still looks like NK and the description doesn't say what it is.

Dave,

I think you have a limit of one knife per membership for the annual club knife. The annual club knife has the gold etch of the BCCI logo and gets your membership number on it. The fund raiser knives have no such markings and you can buy more than one (to raise money for the club).

That's probably what I remember reading. So, some members are using the others to raise money for themselves as well.:thumbdn:

Hay do me a favor and post some photo's of those single blade slippies....I don't have any of those and just may need one....or three after seeing what they sent you!

Here's a picture of all four of them.

 You guys are, of course, correct. I merged the CPM-154 series with the bone series...nice thought, but no dice! :foot:

Hmm......Now that would be a real looker. NK frame with the dark CPM-154 blade and the white bone!
