Coyote Question

They're probably more interested in your food than you. A firearm is handy to have though, I wouldn't want to encounter a rabid one without a firearm of some sort. Your nine year old should camp with you regardless of the risks IMHO.

I believe this is commonly referred to as "Luck".

don't know about that honestly, they are not stupid and when we camp we shoot a lot, last time we dumped about 2000 rds up there, trust me the animals don't want anything to do with that. I have been going up there for 17 years, at least 2 times a year and nothing. It makes sense they are all over out in Yosemite because there are no firearms/shooting allowed.

Hoopster, I agree, it's the chance of food in the camp that might draw them. I don't think they could give a crap about me. He'll be coming up with me first chance we get, it's a beautiful spot. I think it comes down to an interesting story of my sleep disturbed on a camping trip. But, I'll have my old duty weapon with me (Glock 19 w/ surefire attached), my son probably won't know about it the whole weekend.
