I've always enjoyed doing old-time, frontier looking pieces but, my biggest problem has always been having sheaths to suite these pieces. Being a fan of the look of Dan Winkler and Karen Shook's works but, only being able to do half the job was frustrating. My buddy and sheath-maker Paul Long introduced me to frontier-style maker John Cohea at Blade this year and I was very impressed with his work. I think this will be a good working relationship. I hope you like what we've done. I've added a "frontier-period Style" section to my web site so there's more to come, too.

This knife has a spear-point blade of "random-cut" 5 1/8" long damascus with forge-marked and etched flats. The guard is etched wrought iron. The handle is a Coyote jaw-bone with a throat spacer or stabilized/worked California Buckeye Burl wood and black spacers. The handle is finished off with hammered stainless steel pins and a damascus tooth to take the space of a missing one in the jaw. The overall length of this knife is 10 3/16" and it comes with a raw-hide period sheath with Horse-hair, trade beads and Bear & Coyote claws done by John Cohea.
Price, with leather sheath: $1,200.00, plus shipping.

My standard guarantee for quality and durability, of course, applies for all my knives & blades. Visa, MasterCard, Discover Card & Paypal are all fine (Paypal only for international sales please).

J., have you found a way to make sure teeth won't loosen ?

I actually pulled all the teeth and ground everything through the tooth sockets to fit the tang into this piece (the tang in not stubby at all, I don't do stubby tangs). Then I epoxied the teeth back into place and sealed the whole piece. This one is guaranteed as long as I'm kicking, just like everything else I do.
:D

Pulling all those teeth and replacing them is a bunch of work. It gets real tedious to keep from breaking off the roots and messing up the jawbone.

I had to say I got a chance to handle this knife at Blade, and it was by far my most favorite just because of the creativity. If I was in the market to buy a high end collectors knife this wouldnt be here! That price to me is a steal! I love it!
