CP for use as a fire starter?

I bought the RC-4 CP because I liked it. The fellow I bought it from said one very popular use of the top part of the blade was to get a spark off of a fire starter. Is this correct? Does the use of the blade for this purpose bugger up the edge?

Yeh a bit...which is why people use the top swedge...because it isn't the primary cutting surface.
